Book Nook
What's happening in the library-Beginning of the year
I am here to help with all of your book needs, as well as support you with your 2 technology projects you'll need to do this year. If I can't help you, I'll at least know who to ask!
Keep reading to learn some FAQs about the library.
What can I do for you?
Book Nook
Each Monday I will send out the Book Nook newsletter. This letter will include a highlight from the library lessons, news you need to know, as well as the link to the library sign up (more on that later!).
New this year is the weekly Tech Tip. There are so many amazing tech tools and applications that are floating around. I'll highlight a new one and provide a link to a YouTube tutorial. Explore these on your own, or come see me and we'll find a way to use it together! I'll post a link to the Book Nooks on the library website so you'll be able to revisit the tutorials anytime!
Coming to the Library
I like to think of the library as the "living room" of the school! We all can use and share the space.
Typically the reading teacher brings the class to the library for a 30-minute mini lesson and book check out. This should happen as close to weekly as possible! Mini lessons are designed to work WITH the lessons you're teaching in class as front loading or review.
Math and Science teachers are free to visit the library with classes as well! We can work together for a tech related project, research, or a virtual field trip experience.
Students can independently visit the library at any time with the teacher's permission. Please limit this to no more than two students at a time! If you have a group of students that need to work on a project, they're welcome to do so in the library. Please just call (ex. 3406) ahead to make sure space is available!
Here's a quick video showing how to sign up using Google Calendar!
Teacher Role in the Library
When you bring your class to the library, please line them up in the hallway until I call the class in. Students will come in and wait by the magazines for instructions from me.
While this is a time for a quick bathroom break, teachers are expected to stay with their classes in the library. Feel free to interject at any time to help make connections to your classroom learning. Help is also appreciated to manage behavior during check out time.
Teacher Checkout
If you would like me to pull materials for you, please let me know through the Library Website. You can request a specific book or subject. For example, you can request books about life cycles. Give me a day or two for these requests.
You can also come in and pull books yourself. If I'm available I'll be happy to help. If I'm busy with a class, leave your books on the checkout table and I'll get to them as soon as I can!
The library website is your one stop shop for all things library. Be sure to bookmark it for easy reference. On the website, you can...
- Find the library sign up
- Request books or materials
- Request a new backpack tag for a student
- Make a request for something to be posted on the school Facebook page. This can include pictures of engaging lessons you're doing or a grade level newsletter.
