Rockwell's Mission Statement
The mission of Norman Rockwell Elementary school guarantees each child achieves personal excellence and develops character traits to become responsible citizens by creating a world-class elementary school through diverse and engaging educational experiences provided by a caring team of family, students, staff, and community in a positive and safe environment.
Remote Learning
We were sad when we realized that our hopes of having children back at school weren't going to happen for this school year. There are so many fun and exciting end-of-year activities that are traditional at Rockwell. Know that we are working to still make some of those things happen remotely.
Rockwell administration, teachers and paras are even more committed to making the remote learning experiences work for our families throughout the remainder of the year. Teachers are doing a fabulous job with lesson planning, morning meetings, and providing a wide range of on-line resources for students.
Teaching your child at home can feel very overwhelming but our staff is here to help. Remember to reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns. While I have asked teachers to give themselves an evening stop working time, feel free to send an email and they will respond to your questions usually the next day.
We thank you for the work you've already done at home so that meaningful learning continues. We ask that you continue to keep your child engaged in learning by making sure they keep daily routines, attend scheduled ZOOM sessions, and complete assigned work. Teachers are still assessing students on how they are learning and growing. We know there may be some gaps in learning that we need to fill in the fall. If students are actively participating in the daily lessons, gaps in skills will be lessened, and they will be better prepared for learning when school resumes.
Appreciatively,
Joycilyn Y. Rozelle, Principal

Virtual Field Day May 8, 2020
Dear Families,
I’m excited to announce that Rockwell will be participating in the OPEN National Field Day event on Friday, May 8th!
Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and I feel that in these incredibly challenging times this national event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.
OPEN (Online Physical Education Network) is a national public service organization that provides curriculum and training support to more than 90,000 teachers in all 50 states. I will be using their resources and social media network to help organize our school’s participation in #NationalFieldDay.
All #NationalFieldDay events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies.
Here’s how it will work:
Our school is now registered as a participant in this event. Families can choose to register as well, but it’s not a requirement.
The event website is https://openphysed.org/register
As a part of registration, I will receive Field Day Friday email updates each week with new resources that I will share with you and will be in the Friday newsletter.
You can also find updates via social media using #NationalFieldDay.
By April 17 your family will receive a set of event cards that you can use to begin practicing. You will also receive a participant practice sheet for tracking progress.
Your family will be asked to choose a minimum of 4 events to complete on Field Day. However, you may complete as many events as you’d like to.
From May 3 thru 7, we will follow #NationalFieldDay and watch the Field Day Torch travel across the country in preparation for the main event.
On May 8, our entire school will participate in events and complete an official score card. You can email photos and short videos to Mr. Tevis or tag @MPSRockwell on Twitter, and participate nationally on social media using #NationalFieldDay.
After the event, your student can submit their scorecard via email to Mr. Tevis.
Every student that completes at least 4 events will receive an OPEN National Field Day certificate.
I will share all materials and updates for this fun and festive event on my Remote Learning PE website(https://sites.google.com/mpsomaha.org/rockwellpe/home). I appreciate your cooperation and are hopeful that your entire family will use it as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community.
Stay active,
Mr. Tevis
Rockwell Playground Improvement Project
Since schools and playgrounds are closed to the public, the District's project department will be able to get an early start on approved summer projects. We received good news today about the Rockwell playground improvement project! Rockwell's playground will have the railroad ties removed and a new barrier installed. The crew plans to start removing the gravel this week which is an exciting first step. As phases of the project are approved, updates will be shared with our community.
Access to MPS Schools
MPS is open remotely but our school buildings are closed to the public.
