Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 22nd December 2017
Merry Christmas Everyone
Thank you to everyone who joined us in the Cathedral on Monday morning for a very special telling of the Christmas story. Year two reminded us all what Christmas is all about. The children were excellent and it is always a joy when the whole school family come together.
I know you have all been sending your own individual 'thank you' messages to staff this week and I just want to echo how lucky we are to have such committed and approachable staff and thank them for all their efforts. In particular we wish Mr Richardson every success as he goes off to lead his own schools in the new year.
Thank you to family members too, who have supported their children and the school this term. I must mention the Friends in particular who have already raised an amazing total (see below). I hope that you all find a moment of peace as well as great merriment this Christmas.

All About Me
Merry Christmas from Oscar's
It's been a great first term!
We are delighted with how well our first term of providing before and after school care at Oscar's has gone. Our surveys provided both glowing praise and constructive criticism and so we are looking forward to going from strength to strength next term!
Meanwhile, the holiday club is getting full, with around 20 children booked into each day. If you find you would like to use the club, please be sure to go online (follow the link from the school website here) to book as we are accepting bookings made during the holidays, up to 30 places.

A message from the cathedral
I expect in lots of families right now there are tantalising presents wrapped in beautiful paper under the tree. They are very tempting. Parents everywhere are having to explain to children that they must wait until Christmas to rip off that paper and see what is inside. Being patient is hard!
But a present needs to be unwrapped to be enjoyed however much it is right to wait to unwrap them. And I think Christmas itself is rather like that. Christmas is beautiful in its wrapping paper – all the pretty decorations and lights, tinsel and songs and the beautiful Christmas trees themselves. But it is only when you look beyond that to why they are all there, to see what is hidden inside, that you get to the real joy of Christmas. The true joy of Christmas is not all the pretty Christmassy externals like decorations and lights but the great gift of the love of God himself in the tiny new baby who comes to show us the way to God’s love. I hope, when you get through all that wrapping paper of Christmas this year that you will be able to unwrap the great gift of God and know the joy of Christmas that lasts long after the wrapping paper is thrown away.
May your Christmas be peaceful, happy and blessed
