San Jose Parent Newsletter for week of March 30, 2020
A letter from the principal
I hope this finds you well and that you and your families are healthy during this situation. We have officially launched our online instructional program while our school remains closed. Overall we had a successful first week and I am very proud of the students and staff for working together to make the best of this situation.
This afternoon, the CDC and the Florida Department of Education recommended that school closures extend into May 1, therefore, we will continue to remain closed until May 1. We realize that this is a difficult time for many families, and we will continue to support you in any way we can.
During this time of virtual instruction, we will continue to follow the San Jose Prep protocol for communication- if you or your student have any questions about a class, please contact the teacher directly as this will be the best way to get a quick and accurate answer and assistance. Our teachers are working diligently to assist students and their families.
As always, if there is anything that I can do to assist you, please let me know. Thank you for your continued support. I will continue to keep you updated with any developments.
Mrs. Knapp

We are excited about Mr. Drummond joining the San Jose family and building our athletics program. Stay tuned for a Meet the AD session coming soon!
Mental health services offered
Dear San Jose Parents, Students and Teachers,
I hope this email finds you well!
As many of you know, my name is Carol Bender and I am the LCSW/School Counselor providing services to the students attending San Jose Academy and Preparatory High School grades 6th through 12th.
These are trying times and we have been challenged with many changes in a short amount of time. This is difficult under the best of circumstances, let alone the present concerns about the nation’s health and wellbeing. With that said, I will be offering telehealth services for your children while the school remains closed. A parent can refer their child to me via email. Please provide your name, phone number and only the student’s initials. Once I have identified the student, I will schedule a session via Thera link that is HIPAA compliant. You may also request a phone session if you are uncomfortable about a video session. I will call you via a secure agency phone. Please email me to both carol.bender@sanjoseprep.org and cbender@jfcsjax.org
Teachers may also refer a student via email using only student id (please no names). I am available on Monday and Wednesdays between 8 am and 2 pm for a session. I will do my best to provide the best services possible and will need to schedule students according to most urgent. Mental health is as important as physical health as both are closely linked and one can affect the other either positively or negatively.
Be well, be kind
Carol Bender, LCSW/School Counselor
AP courses- updates on AP exams
The College Board released information on Friday, March 20 in regards to how AP exams will function this year. AP classes will still have AP exams, however, they will be computer based. Our AP teachers should be reaching out to all of their students via email or Google Classroom.
AP classes will continue via Google Classroom.
This is great news for us, as students will still be able to complete exams towards their AP Capstone Diplomas.

Segunda a quinta-feira: 8:00 - 15:00
Sexta-feira: 8:00 - 13:00

School attendance
We will continue to take daily attendance during the virtual schooling time!!! Your student will be required to complete a "bell work" activity in every class assigned that day- this will serve as their official attendance for the day.
Senior Class updates
At this time, we do not have all of the answers. What I can tell you is that we recognize this and will do everything we can to end your senior year on a special note.
Grad Bash:
Our original Grad Bash date of April 17 was cancelled by Universal Studios.
We were able to move our students to the April 24th Grad Bash celebration. As of today (March 31) we have not heard of any official cancellation for the April 24th Grad Bash. We will continue to keep you posted.
Prom:
We have moved the date of the Prom to May 23 in hopes that the CDC and state give clearance by then for us to be able to host activities and for our upperclassmen to be able to have this memorable experience. While we want the students to have every opportunity to have a Prom, the health and welfare of our students, staff and their families is our priority. Should CDC directives still have the current quarantine orders in place, we will have to re-address the Prom. We will keep you posted.
Distribution of graduation items and class rings:
Caps & gowns, announcements, and class rings have arrived, however, we must abide by the Governor's stay at home order. As soon as we have clearance, we will announce a drive through distribution date for Seniors to come pick up their items and for juniors who ordered class rings.
Graduation:
We know that the pinnacle of the high school experience is the graduation ceremony. At this time, we are planning to keep the original date for the graduation ceremony.
The plan is for graduation ceremonies to still take place. If for any reason they cannot take place on the scheduled date, we will move the ceremony to a later date.
Graduation requirements:
Seniors are still required to complete the mandatory 24 credits and earn the 2.0 GPA. The only change to graduation requirements for this Senior class is that any testing that a senior still needed for graduation (i.e. Algebra EOC, Biology EOC, concordant score, etc...) will be waived. Please make sure that your senior is completing all of their required coursework and that they are passing, to ensure that they will graduate.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our graduation coach, Ms. Scott, at fallon.scott@sanjoseprep.org
Mrs. Knapp has emailed all Seniors as well as reached out to them via the Senior Class Google Classroom page.
