2022 GED and CNA graduation
A graduation ceremony was held on May 18 for those who have earned their GED (General Education Development) diploma or CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certificate through Harmony Adult Education. In addition to the 17 graduates honored that evening, Harmony Adult Education has helped dozens of individuals accomplish this goal in the past year. They have gone on to better jobs, military service, college, and other pursuits. Watch a short video recap of the ceremony here.
North High AF JROTC annual Bataan Death March Memorial Hike
The North High cadets participated in the annual 14-mile hike in remembrance of the Bataan Death March. This hike is done to remember and respect those Prisoners of War (POWs) who were forced to march the 66 miles journey to a POW camp in the Philippines during WWII. Thousands of Americans and Filipinos lost their lives on this march, and many more lost their lives while held at the camp.
This year, we give special recognition to Walt Straka, a Minnesotan from Brainerd, who passed away last July 4, 2021. He was the oldest living Bataan Death March Survivor in Minnesota until that time. He lived to be 101 years old.
