Celebrating Seniors
Message to the Class of 2019
Seniors - you have been looking forward to this week for 13 years. Take time to enjoy and remember the special times ahead. Monday, May 20, you will gather in the main gym for your cap and gown panoramic picture and then load buses to take your Legacy Walk through the other district campuses. This will be a time to remember when you walked the halls of your Elementary and Middle School and how much you have accomplished along the way. Walk proudly as you give younger students a glimpse of and hope for the things that they too want to accomplish. You are a shining example of the great things that happen in these hallways everyday. The panoramic picture will be taken at 8:00 AM. You can check in as early as 7:00 AM. We will be distributing the gold Class of 2019 stole so we need you to check in before 8:00 AM. Seniors who have not received their awards from Thursday night will also be able to pick those up at check in so you will have all of your graduation regalia for the picture.
Tuesday, May 21, is graduation rehearsal at 8:00 AM in the main gym. Rehearsal is important. You will learn what row you will be sitting on so you can tell your family and friends where the best view will be. We will go through the program so you will know when to stand, when to sit, and when to walk. We will practice the moment you have been waiting for your entire K-12 career. We want you to shine as you walk the stage, collect your diploma, and start your next journey. Tuesday evening join your classmates at the Little Elm beach for the Class of 2019 Senior Sunset from 6-10 pm. The event will feature a volleyball tournament, games and activities, food, swimming, class superlatives, and -- of course -- viewing of the senior slideshow. The event is organized and hosted by senior parents. This is a way for seniors to be together and celebrate one last time before graduation and summer. At the beginning of the year, seniors participated in a senior sunrise to symbolize the beginning of your senior year, and the senior sunset is to watch the sunset together symbolizing the end of your senior year. Senior sunset is an opportunity for those students graduating to celebrate their graduation together. It gives everyone a chance to be apart of at least one graduation party. At graduation everyone will be running around stressed and getting pictures with their family, this is a great way to celebrate with your classmates in a casual environment and just relax and have fun! Many seniors can’t attend their friends graduation parties because many are the same day or same time. This is a way to see everyone and celebrate together.
The BIG DAY is Thursday at 10:00 AM at the UNT Coliseum. Seniors will need to report with cap/gown and all allowable regalia to LEHS for graduation check-in and dress code check beginning at 7:00 AM and no later than 7:45 am. It is recommended that students be dropped off at the campus, rather than driving, so they won’t have to deal with keys, bags, etc…, at the venue. All staff and seniors will be transported to UNT by bus. Seniors will already be in walk order and will enter the coliseum through a separate entrance than guests ready to start the processional. This change is to accommodate the early start time and limited parking at UNT, and to reduce stress for our families that their senior could miss the start time due to rush hour traffic. So, once students are dropped off at LEHS, they will not be with family members again until immediately following the ceremony. Students will be released to leave the venue with family, although a bus will be available for those students who require transportation back to campus.I look forward to greeting each of you as you walk the stage to receive your diploma.
You are a special class to me. We have ushered in many positive changes during our four years together. We have seen many of our programs rise to prominence with teams going to playoffs an expectation now, academic programs such as Academic Decathlon bringing state recognition for our academic success, and fine arts programs continuing to set the bar high. We have seen the district invest $20 million dollars into our facility to make it a place we are all proud to call home. You have been witness to so many positive changes in your four years at LEHS.
Even though your time at LEHS is coming to and end, I am not only extremely proud of your accomplishments and legacy here at LEHS but I am looking forward to seeing the great things you will do next. I hope you take with you the confidence to try any challenge that interests you, the discernment to know when you need help, and the courage to ask for it. You are prepared for your next journey. Believe in yourself and you will soar to new heights. Remember, we are One Community, One Pack and you will always be a Lobo!

Teenagers who are anxious or depressed often turn to pot or alcohol to make themselves feel better. It's easy to get, their friends are doing it, and there’s no stigma attached. It may actually help with their symptoms in the short term. But substance use can also delay and undermine their ability to get effective, lasting help and put them on a collision course with addiction.
This week on childmind.org we feature a comprehensive guide to substance use and mental health disorders, developed in collaboration with the Partnership for Drug Free Kids. In it we examine how substance use interacts specifically with disorders in adolescents and young adults — how does it affect symptoms, behavior, treatment, and long-term prognosis? The guide is for both parents and teenagers themselves, it’s downloadable, and we hope it will enable families to make decisions that will be effective for them, now and in the future.

Report Harmful, Harassing, and Bullying Behavior
LEISD has an on-line tool called "Anonymous Alerts" that students, parents, and teachers can use to report harmful, harassing, and bullying type behaviors. Anonymous Alerts bullying reporting mobile app helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to speak up. Social and peer pressures are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome. Anonymous Alerts encourages students, parents and staff to quickly, easily, and anonymously report bullying, cyber-bullying, gang-related issues, and other sensitive topics through private messages to school officials by building. All reports remain completely anonymous even during a two-way email conversation, although submitters have the option to reveal their identity if they prefer to have a person-to-person discussion.
