Attn: Senior Parents
Class of 2021 parents,
I am the Legacy yearbook adviser, and below is the form for senior tributes. The deadline is Oct. 29. We usually sell out of space, so the tributes are sold in the order of who has turned in their photos, printed contract and payment to the main office downstairs.
Beyond the space filling up, these tributes take some thought and effort tracking down photos and writing the message, so it might be worth starting on now. The tributes need to be dropped off in the office downstairs or mailed directly to the school and cannot be accepted in my classroom. I have included an example below from the last yearbook of each tribute size.
Also, if your child has not had their senior yearbook photo taken yet and does want a studio session, which also includes cap and gown photos, please contact Reed Portrait Group at 816-436-5550.
If you just want your child to be pictured in the yearbook and are not worried about cap and gown photos, please have your child prepared to have their photo taken Tuesday, November 17, or Friday, November 20, at Staley High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Cherié Burgett
Legacy yearbook teacher

College and Career Survey
As we are settling into the school year we are starting to do some planning for life after Staley to make sure your student is given every opportunity possible. The first couple steps of this is for your student and us to identify their strengths and their goals for after they leave Staley. This would traditionally be done through Falcon Time at school, however, with a hybrid schedule, we want to ensure that our virtual students are provided the same opportunity.
In the next week, in-person students will complete an interest inventory through Missouri Connections to help them identify areas of interest for a career. Once that is complete, they will be filling out the following form to help give us some information to help us make sure they are aware of opportunities available through the district to help them achieve their goals.
For virtual students, this can be completed by following the instructions below or by visiting the Staley student canvas page, and then clicking on the Missouri Connections module.
I would encourage you to have a conversation with your student about their interest inventory results and we invite you to complete the survey as well. All of this information is also available to your student on their Staley student canvas page.
To access the interest inventory please follow these directions:
• Go to www.missouriconnections.org
• Username: email address Ex: 123456@nkcschools.org
• Password: student ID # followed by Nkc Ex: 123456Nkc
• If your student is having login issues, please try forgot my password first. If that doesn’t work email Meagan.halphin@nkcschools.org
To access the survey:

If you have any questions about planning for life after Staley you can visit our counseling website or email your student’s counselor.

What is staley diversity council?
This year will be Staley’s second year of having a Diversity Council which will be comprised of one student (volunteer) representative from each Advisory classroom. Our Diversity Council members will have an opportunity to collaborate with their peers and staff to make Staley the best possible environment for all of our school community members. We will do this by empowering our Diversity Council students with knowledge and awareness of injustice, while encouraging our students to stand up when they see or experience injustice in their lives.
Diversity Council members will greatly contribute to a positive and inclusive culture and climate of Staley. Members will gain skills related to peer mediation, develop communication skills, and contribute to classroom community circles within their Diversity Council experience. As a Diversity Council member, students will have an opportunity to learn more about their peers while showcasing their own unique attributes and talents. Staley’s Diversity Council is not an activist group. It is not aligning with political groups or movements. It is a group to build community and connectedness amongst one another in this building.
If you have any questions about Diversity Council, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Wheeler or Mrs. Redmond.

SCHOOL-WIDE COMMUNITY CIRCLES
We have started our school-wide circle experiences for students during Advisory time. The purpose of this time is to build connections and build our Staley community. We will be engaging in circles one time per month throughout the school year and the overall topic is “Building Community”.

October is the month when libraries across the country celebrate our teen patrons, or TeenTober. This year’s theme is “What will you discover at the library?” To celebrate, we’re promoting some fantastic road trip novels and memoirs about journeys and discoveries! Additionally, our makerspace has mazes in addition to our autumn coloring sheets. Students are welcome to stop by the library and take a book or activity sheet—we hope it’ll help them discover some stress-free fun and relaxation.
Remember that the library does curbside book checkouts for textbooks and library materials. Students can contact Mrs. Ferguson at elizabeth.ferguson@nkcschools.org or call the library to schedule a pickup time. Book requests can be placed through Destiny or the library’s Canvas. Books checked out at the beginning of the year are coming due, and students can log-in and renew them there, or stop by the library to take care of this business.
