Principal Project and Summer Work
Look in your child's Thursday Folder from this week. Inside you will find a Principal's project. Your child can earn recognition next year for completing a summer project. We also have information about summer work that can be done. We hope that students will read and do math during the summer to avoid "summer slide". If your child would like to use the school computers, they are available at least every Tuesday in July. If you would like to use them on other days, call the school, and if cleaning does not interfere with getting to the computer lab, we are happy to have students accompanied by adults using school computers. We hope to be pinning several students for completing summer work when they return in September.
Field Day Was a Success
News From the Principal
I do not envy Dr. Alban's staff who have to make decisions about school closings. Following the weather forecast and assessing our school grounds to decide about Field Day was not fun. We hope that Tuesday will be sunny as we have a GREAT field day planned for our students. Your PTA membership and fundraising efforts are paying for a program in the afternoon. We look forward to a fun day on Tuesday!! Thank you to the families who have agreed to volunteer--- we had 44 families sign-up to help for our Field day!! We truly appreciate the support!!
Also, thank you to our family and community volunteers for speaking at our Career day. We look to have this annual event for our 3rd-5th grade students. If you are interested in being a speaker next year, please contact. Ms. Trombatore, our guidance counselor.
Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring the Spring Fling last month!! A great time was had by all!! Thank you to all family volunteers and staff members who helped to make it a success.
If you missed the school play, you missed a great production. Our students did a FANTASTIC job. Thank you to Ms. VanWingerdan and Ms. Woods for leading this event. We had several staff members and parents that also contributed to its success. What a wonderful opportunity for our students.
We got excellent reviews about our Kindergarten Orientation. We will hold this again next year. Mark your calendars for May of next year if you have a future Roo who will be joining us!! For families who could not attend, I will be putting a narrated version of the presentation on the website and will be offering a mini session on Back to School night. If you know anyone with Pre-k or K students who has not enrolled their child, please encourage them to do so asap. Having students enrolled helps us to make strategic staffing decisions
We value your feedback! As we start to make plans for next year, we would like community feedback to consider. I have attached a form to gather feedback from you on things that are going well and ways that we can improve. Specific questions have been asked about homework, communication, and Roo awards. There is space to give feedback on areas outside of these topics, as well. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this form. Thank you to those of you who have already taken the time to give us feedback. We appreciate it. https://goo.gl/forms/X6CEx7trjFNk9rgI3
Congratulations go out to Ms. Hicks and Ms. Kerr. Ms. Hicks has been chosen to be the ELL teacher at Butterfly Ridge next year and Ms. Kerr will be a special education teacher at West Frederick Middle school. Ms. Grinder will not be returning next year and is looking forward to spending time with her family. We wish them the best!
We have hired some exceptional teachers for next year. Many of them have many years of experience in education. Newly hired staff has already had at least a half day, some a full day, of planning with their team for next year. Our teachers have already looked at data for their upcoming students, analyzed student needs and areas of growth, and strategically put in their long-range planning ideas of how to best meet student needs. Our staff is excited about next year.
Information about our newly hired teachers will be shared through the summer. Some highlights are:
Ms. Reno has officially joined our Roo family and will be a third grade teacher next year. She was the long term sub for Ms. Dodd and did an EXCEPTIONAL job. Ms. Reno is an experienced teacher. SRES families/students that had her this year were impressed with her exceptional communication skills, ability to make connections with students, and her ability to differentiate instruction and challenge students.
Ms. Dayhoff was hired as the ELL teacher at our school. Ms. Dayhoff was a specialist at Waverley Elementary school and comes with years of experience and background in literacy instruction. Ms. Dayhoff is thought of very highly at her previous school.
Ms. Barrick is currently the Resident Sub at Butterfly Ridge Elementary. All of her references have said that we have hired a "true gem". This will be her first year officially teaching, but her references shared that she will do an exceptional job at our school. She will be joining our first grade team.
Ms. Chakalis is joining our Roo family from Montgomery County Public Schools. She will be a new addition to our Kindergarten team and comes to us with many years of experience in kindergarten. Her references shared that she is positive, hard-working, exceptional at her craft and builds great relationships with students. She came this week after a long work day to long-range plan with her team for next year.
Ms. Greco is currently a classroom teacher at Emmitsburg Elementary School. She comes to us with years of experience as well. She is a former first grade teacher and will be joining our first grade team. Ms. Greco was highly impressive at the long-range planning meeting. She shared great ideas and ways that she has provided rigorous instruction for her students in the past. She is excited about joining Roo Country and we are excited to have her on staff.
As has been tradition in the past, teacher assignments will be on student report cards. Please know that staffing changes can occur during the summer for a variety of reasons. There is a strong possibility that teacher changes may occur over the summer. A letter will be sent the first week of August confirming teacher placements and providing information that will share important procedures, etc. When talking with your child, please make sure that he/she understands that teachers may be changed over the summer.
Be on the look-out for dates that the administrative team will do video talks during the summer. We will be reading books, talking about activities to do over the summer, sharing fun stories about our summer and sharing important information for next year. We hope to have many families tune in this summer!!!
Let's get those box tops in!! Thank you for supporting our goal of collecting $5000 worth of them!! We know that we can do it!!
Have a FANTASTIC Summer!!
Fun Learning Activities to do at Home!!
