SUNSET TIMES
March Edition 2022, Sunset Elementary School
Principal's Corner with Mrs. Montecucco
CONFERENCES: Happy March to all of our families, bring on spring! We can't wait to meet with each of you at our upcoming Spring Parent Teacher Conferences. Please connect with your child's teacher if you did not receive our Sign Up email. During these conferences families can come on into the school or request a Zoom meeting. Please be sure to preface which works best for your family.
It is so important to work together as a team in supporting your child's learning We look forward to sharing data and progress thus far. See you all on March 10th or March 11th.
SIGN IN / SIGN OUT: Feedback has been positive a more seamless drop off if signing in your student. Additionally, we have had less crowding in our small office area. The why really comes down to safety. It becomes hard to monitor that all have checked in along with any adult checking in has been cleared through the office. We know sometimes plans change but please note it becomes difficult if phone calls come in after 2:05 to ensure messages are delivered to students. Thank you for your help and support. We love our office staff.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR COUNSELOR
Hello Sunset Families,
Your child’s safety is a primary concern for all of us. We share your hope that children learn and grow in a safe and secure learning environment. Every year throughout the Cheney School District, students from kindergarten to fifth grade are taught the district’s Personal Safety curriculum.
During the next several weeks, I will be giving a series of short lessons centering on aspects of Personal Safety. These lessons will include maintaining safety with strangers and friends (early warning signs & keeping secrets), recognizing appropriate and inappropriate touch, saying “No!” to inappropriate touching, and identifying sources of help and support available to children (safety network). The books listed below are materials used in the classroom, for grades K-2. Grades 3rd-5th will be utilizing PowerPoints and discussion.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 509-559-4634. If you still have concerns about your child’s participation in this curriculum, you do have the right to have your child “opt out,” by signing a Student Exclusion form which is available in the school office. However, we ask that you notify us of your decision by Friday, April 1st so we can make alternative plans for your child/children while the curriculum is being taught in the classroom. As always, don’t hesitate to call with any questions you might have.
Take care,
