Congratulations to the 7/8 Baseball team!!
This year for the Senior National team, was one to remember. The 12-5 Cardinals lead by Coaches Hans Vockert, Kaitlin Aho, George Slevin, Greg Noles and Dustin Moist, took the team to County. This was a first for this team!
At County they battled hard and they placed 2nd. This qualified them for the State tournament, which was held in Independence, Oregon. At state, the first game they struggled and couldn’t come away with a win against Moutainside. In the second game against Dallas, they were able to battle back and get, “one more day under the sun.” The following day, they took on Stayton. It was a nail biter all the way to the end, and they lost. Overall, what the team learned about themselves and about each other is invaluable and they will remember this forever. -Hans Vockert
Great Job 5/6 Team! League and County Champions!
After taking the CCJBA League Title the Corbett boys rolled into the CCJBA County Tournament on a high note. With 8 teams battling for the County Title, Corbett opened its first game against Country Christian. The team took the victory with a score or 9-2. The second game was moving along well and Corbett pulled out the win 11-10. Saturday came around and these boys came to play. A big performance by all that played saw a 16-1 victory in 5 innings, paving the way to the championship game. Going up early 1-0 and then tacking on another run in the third inning to make it 2-0, we gave one back in the bottom of the inning, 2-1 heading to the final two innings. Each team got one run in the fifth and the pitching performance from the Cards to this point was amazing. Needing an insurance run in the top of the sixth the Corbett boys came out swinging. Cards with a 4 run lead going to the bottom of the sixth. Estacada came back tying the game and sending the game into extra innings. After two scoreless innings the Cards got the run they needed in the top of the ninth to win the game. Making them County Champions and advancing them to the JBO State Tournament.
At the JBO State Tournament the first game was against a tough Dallas team. Our boys battled all game long and left the tying run on second base in the bottom of the sixth to lose 5-4. Our second game of the day The Cards found the victory in 5 innings. This lead us into a rematch of the County Championship game with Estacada. With excellent pitching by both teams we finally found a run in the fourth and then in the top of the sixth found a couple more runs. As you can imagine Estacada had no quit in them and fought their way back to tie the game. Again the ninth inning provided all the fireworks anyone would need. The Cards found the run they had been working hard for all game and headed to the bottom of the inning with the win in sight. After a couple of quick outs, Estacada pit in the winning run for the win. These boys were able to hold their heads high on a great season with so many incredible baseball plays and memories to fill a lifetime. -Geoffrey Wunn

July Little Cards Summer Camp Recap
Corbett Middle School Girls Basketball Youth Camp was a Big Success!
Coach Steve Fancher said "I’m extremely proud of the girls for having such a great camp week! I hope they learned some new skills and had fun. I know they got a lot of exercise, as three hours is a long time to hustle and play basketball each day."
Corbett Cross Country is excited for the upcoming season
Last year our women’s team qualified for and ran at the State XC Meet for the third straight year and our men’s team enjoyed its most successful season in memory.
Our returning runners are led by Ava Horton, Malena Mayell, Jackson Minsker, Olivia McGrew, Ian McElmurry, Joey Kirnan and Jack Plummer. Ava, Malena and Jackson all earned All-League honors last year. In addition, we’re looking forward to welcoming a group of incoming 9th graders who recorded some of the fastest times ever run by Corbett 8th graders including a school record.
Our first official practice is Monday, August 15th and our first race will be on Thursday, August 25th.
Whether you run every day or are just looking for a fun environment to get some exercise, Cross Country has a place for you.
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Paul Rondema at prondema@corbett.k12.or.us.
High School News
The Oregon Department of Education is encouraging Oregon families to take three steps this summer to help combat childhood hunger:
- Find a summer meals site.
- Spread the word about summer meals sites.
- Review the changes to how meals are served this summer.
When schools let out for the summer, thousands of Oregon children lose access to breakfast, lunch, and afterschool meals, available during the regular school year. Many children and families rely on these school meals to supplement what is available at home.
The Summer Food Service Program helps fill this gap by providing free nutritious meals to children and teens over the summer months. Free meals and enrichment activities are offered at more than 700 locations throughout the state including many schools, parks, and other non-profit organizations.
Meals are available to any child 18 and under without regard to race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), age or disability.
Finding Meal Sites
There are more than 700 summer meal sites in Oregon alone.
Families can look up meal locations in their area by:
-Calling 2-1-1
-Texting “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304
-Visiting Summer Food Oregon
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program offered at Corbett
School District. It provides nutritionally balance, low-cost or free lunches and snacks to school-aged children. You must apply to this program annually by October 1 each year.
If you are interested in this program, you can apply online at
https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp or you can fill out a form at the school if you do not have access to a computer.
This information will be kept confidential. Your child(ren) will not be told that they are on the
program. Likewise, no other students will know that they are on the lunch program. It is our
utmost priority to make it invisible to everyone except the parent/guardian.
If you have any question, please feel free to contact Janet Ruddell by phone 503-261-4236 or
