The Talent Show is coming soon!

Each February, we host an Annual Sycamore Talent Show to give students an opportunity to share their talents and skills with an audience of friends and family. All students are able to participate. They need only to ensure their performance is well-planned and appropriate for our young audience. This year, our show will be virtual. On Sunday, February 27, we will open the Talent Show for the entire school and families to enjoy through their child's Canvas page. The acts will be viewable for a week.

Participants will upload a performance-ready video of their act to Mrs. Stanger between February 15 and February 23. The video needs to formatted as .MP4 and submitted to the Talent Show Google Folder using this link. Students will be notified by February 24 if their act needs to be revised in any way. Students need to submit a signed permission slip to participate. Please email the completed permission slip to Mrs. Stanger at astanger@cusd.claremont.edu or bring it to school by February 23. Here are the parameters for acts:

· Students may appear in only one individual or group act. Accompaniment may be provided by those in your home.

· Joint acts can be created by editing separate videos into one or by having participants follow the current protocols for masking and distancing.

· Acts are limited to a maximum of 3 minutes.

· All acts (lyrics, background music, spoken material, movement, dress, etc.) must be appropriate for elementary-aged students.

Lost and Found

Are you missing something? Cold mornings and warm days cause students to shed their jackets, and many leave them around campus. Items in "lost and found" have increased. This past week, we laid the lost and found items out for students to look through, but many items remain. As you come for pick-up or drop-off this week, we're asking families to find a moment to look through the lost and found items. You will find lost and found on tables near the front of the MPR. We will donate any left items at the end of this week.

Educational Opportunities for Families

CUSD will be offering two helpful family education nights over the coming weeks. On February 23, Lori Getz, Cyber Education Specialist will present a discussion and strategies related to healthy technology use. Some of you attended this training when Sycamore hosted Lori Getz in January. If you missed it, here's your second chance. See the flyer for details.

On March 1, Renee Kavanagh, CUSD's Clinical Therapist, will offer an informational meeting titled, "Understanding and managing Stress and Anxiety in Elementary Students." I strongly recommend you save the date for this helpful and relevant presentation. See the flyer below for details on how you can join this virtual meeting.

We've lots to celebrate, and it's time well spent to do that together. We will dismiss students at 1:00 PM daily to make time for these meetings between students, their grown-ups and teachers. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 1:00 PM each day from March 16 to March 25. Your child's teacher will provide directions for setting up this online conference for you and your child. More information will be coming soon. Thank you!

Sycamore and Uncommon Good Citrus Exchange

Over the past few months we have gathered together, shared and donated a few hundred pounds of citrus fruit. This Wednesday will be our last “Citrus Exchange” for the season. Please bring your citrus fruit to the side gates and enjoy the season's bounty. We will donate any extra fruit to Uncommon Good. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed, tasted, donated and helped provide local produce to families within our community.

Health Update

This Wednesday, the requirement for students and staff to wear masks outside was lifted. Of course, we will continue to support students if they elect (or you encourage them) to wear masks outside, but they are no longer required. We continue to encourage social distancing on campus, and students and staff wear masks indoors. We'll continue to share updates as they are given to us.

Please ask your child how they are feeling before leaving for school, and keep your student at home if any symptoms are present. Use our 24 hour attendance line, 909-398-0325, to contact Norma or email her using our NEW ATTENDANCE email at SYC_Attendance@cusd.claremont.edu.

PCR testing for COVID-19 will continue to be required prior to the return to school if COVID symptoms are present. CUSD will continue to provide testing at school sites (see below). If this is your first time attending one of our testing sites, see the link below to access a one-time testing form.
