Mid Trimester grades
Lice
Dear Parents, we wanted to let you know that we have had a few reports of lice in a couple of different grade levels over the past two weeks. All students in the grade levels affected were checked and random lice checks were performed in the other 5K-5th grade classes. Per District Policy, random checks of all students are conducted the first three weeks of school, the two weeks following Christmas and Easter break.
I would remind all parents to check your child(ren) on a regular basis. While this problem tends to be a fall occurrence, spring does also present itself with opportunities to share items such as hats, batting helmets, and other headwear. I would encourage parents to monitor the situation and not promote the sharing of these items. If sharing is unavoidable, spray the items with a product which will “Rid” the headwear of any lice.
While most people associate lice with “dirty” or poor hygiene, in reality getting lice has nothing to do with it. The importance of identifying lice is to break the cycle by keeping schools, coaches, and clubs aware of any confirmed outbreaks. One or two cases is not an outbreak but should be reported so the leaders of the youth can keep a handle on the situation.
If the process is handled in a low key manner, then the children and parents will not make a big ordeal out of dealing with the situation. Staying on top of this situation can eliminate many problems for the children and our families.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call (262) 673-3720 Ext. 5000.
