Welcome to College Advising!

My name is Jessica Martin and I work at Hancock County High School as a College Advisor. This will be my fourth year working as an College Advisor, and I'm looking forward to meeting each of you to help you plan for your future!

I will be sending out monthly newsletters to keep you all updated with what we will be working on each month. If you need any help or have any questions regarding the college going process please feel free to contact me or stop by my office in the high school library.

What To Expect in August

  • I will be meeting with all seniors to discuss their post-secondary plans.
  • I will work with all seniors to get the TN Promise Scholarship application submitted. I will do classroom visits to ensure that each student has help submitting their TN Promise application.

What is TN Promise?


Tennessee Promise is a scholarship and mentoring program for high school graduating seniors. This scholarship provides students a last-dollar scholarship to cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell grant, the HOPE scholarship, or TSAA funds. Students can use the scholarship at any of the Tennessee’s 13 community colleges or 27 colleges of applied technology. Requirements to remain eligible for the TN Promise:


  • Submit TN Promise application by Nov. 1st, 2021
  • Complete and submit FAFSA by Feb. 1st, 2022
  • Complete 8 hours of community service between Nov. 2nd, 2021-July 1st, 2022
  • Attend the mandatory spring meeting (date TBD)
  • Enroll at an eligible post-secondary institution and maintain a 2.0 GPA
