- a natural-born citizen

- Mitt Romney is running as the Republican nominee
Democratic nominee
- Barack Obama is running as the Democratic nominee
Popular votes
- votes cast by regular citizens
- they have to have popular votes to add up the electoral votes
Electoral College
- a candidate must win at least 270 electoral votes
- the candidate who wins the popular vote gets all of that state's electoral votes
- the electoral votes are cast in December
Running mate
- person that will be vice president
- the vice president will be president if something happens to the president
