Spring Break Edition

Spring Break

We are on Spring Break this week. However, please have your child log onto MobyMax for a minimum of 1 hour a day (this can be broken up into smaller intervals). I've asked the students to commit to 30 minutes of reading/vocabulary and 30 minutes of math. They are free to enjoy any additional parts of the website after fulfilling the reading & math. Letters were sent home with login information. You may login as parents and see how they are progressing with MobyMax in school as well as at home. I'll be checking in with them during the week to see how things are going. If you have any problems with the site please let me know ASAP.

Mystery Reader - Author Visit

What a wonderful way to end March Reading month, than to have a visit by an author! We were honored to have local author & AAPS teacher Jonathan Royce come in and share his children's book Detective Dwayne Drake and The Case of The Alphabet Thief with us. Students loved the visit and the opportunity to talk with Mr. Royce about the process of becoming an author. Please ask your child about the experience. Autographed books can be ordered for $10, please let me know if you are interested.

Writing - Alliteration

Mr. Royce's visit was a great extension of our alliteration lesson. His book was filled with Alliteration and the students did a great job noticing that. Ask your child to help you create an alliteration poem using your name. This lesson was a lot of fun!

Science - Life Cycle

We study the life cycle of different animals and plants throughout the year. The Decorah Eagles provide the opportunity to witness some of the stages of the life cycle for eagles. We have been waiting for the hatching of the 3 eggs this year and were able to witness 2 this week. We will continue to watch as the eaglets grow and you are invited to log onto Ustream and stay updated on the eagles during break and anytime.

Math - Coins

We completed unit 9 about measurement this week. To help prepare your child for our next unit which includes coins, talk about the value of coins. Also have your child get some experience using coins to purchase items either while out shopping on for things around the house. We will explore money and making change in this next unit.
