EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY

She was born on February 4,1913 in Tuskegee,Alabama with the name of

Rosa McCauley. Her parents name was Leona and James McCauly.

She had a younger brother named Sylvester McCauly.

Rosa Parks Education

Rosa finished elementary school and went to the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls. She attended Alabama's State Teacher's College to get her high school diploma, but she had to quit because her mother became very ill.

Rosa Parks Jobs

Rosa worked as a seamstress to earn money.

HOW SHE BECAME FAMOUS

On December 1, 1955, Rosa refused to give up her seat to a white man on a city bus. The bus driver called the police and she was arrested. This started the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was when black people decided to hurt the bus company by not riding. The bus company lost a lot of money and decided then that blacks and whites could sit wherever they wanted on a city bus.

LATE LIFE

Rosa was given the Congressional Gold Medal and the Medal of Freedom by the President of the United States.

When Did She Die?

She died on October 24,2005 in Detroit , Michigan.
