Stay tuned for more new staff intros in the next edition of Knightly News!
Mrs. Paula Breunig joins our team as a part-time art teacher. She will teach art on Thursdays and also teach art at five other CUSD 200 elementary schools. Mrs. Breunig is a graduate of Ohio State University with BA in art education K-12 and also a graduate of The Harrington Institute of Interior Design with an associate's degree in architectural interior design. She has taught elementary and middle school art and is a former drafting teacher at WWSHS and art teacher at Edison Middle School. Mrs. Breunig also owns her own business.
Mrs. Michelle Cole will join us as our health aide this year after three years in the same role at Bower Elementary. She resides in Winfield and has has two sons in District 200 schools (one at Monroe and one at Wiesbrook). Mrs. Cole has Bachelor's degrees in health education and speech communication and a Master's in adult and higher education. She loves travel and all things Disney.
Mrs. Lauren Walsh will work in the mornings as a teaching assistant in the all-day kindergarten class. She has a bachelor's degree in housing and environmental design from Olivet Nazarene University. Outside of the classroom, you can find Mrs. Walsh volunteering in the STARS program at her church and helping her husband fix up their new house!
Mrs. Sharon Johnson will be teaching 2nd grade this fall during Mrs. Jackie Esarey's maternity leave. Mrs. Johnson grew up in Glen Ellyn and earned her teaching degree with endorsements in math and reading from Olivet Nazarene University. After several years of teaching 4th and 5th grade, Mrs. Johnson became a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child entered elementary school - at Washington! Mrs. Johnson then began subbing at Washington and has done so for over 20 years, including multiple long-term leaves. Mrs. Johnson and her husband Jim have three children and four grandchildren, with number five arriving soon! In her spare time, Mrs. Johnson enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, walking, biking, and reading. She thoroughly enjoys working with the Washington students and staff!

Elementary Band and Orchestra Registration
Did you know that the District 200 instrumental music program is known throughout Illinois for its excellence?
During the first 2 weeks of school, 5th graders will see, hear, and try out the instruments offered for instruction. Families will have a chance to meet the directors, ask questions, rent instruments, purchase lesson books, and register students for band or orchestra. Registration nights are at Hubble and Monroe Middle Schools on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at Edison and Franklin Middle Schools on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Feel free to drop in; allow about a half hour. The busiest times are from 5:00 to 6:30, when it may take a little longer.
If parents cannot attend these sessions, please contact the band or orchestra teacher from your school. Further information may also be available on teacher classroom pages on school websites. Students younger than 5th grade may also participate in large group rehearsals if they take private lessons outside of school. There is an $80 fee for elementary band or orchestra participation; this is adjusted for students who qualify for exempt or reduced fees.
Please contact the instructors for more information! The band director at Washington is Mr. Klos at michael.klos@cusd200.org and the string orchestra director is Mrs. Jeanne Johannesen at jeanne.johannesen@cusd200.org.
We hope to see you at registration night!
