CES iLab Teams with Vanguard for Student Hour of Code Workshops

Through the Women’s Initiative for Leadership Success at Vanguard, employees from the Malvern, Pa.-based financial investment firm have been working with Cheltenham Elementary students on coding projects in the CES iLab. In a belated celebration of Hour of Code, this week, Vanguard Data Scientists Anna Radonjic and Kyle Mahady and Data Engineer Jamal Campbell worked with students in Mike Ferris’ third-grade class on Minecraft Voyage Aquatic challenges, which saw the students work in pairs (a driver and navigator) to “code” solutions to the challenges. Vanguard employees were at the school throughout the week, and almost every CES class had the opportunity to participate in the coding challenges. Read more>

Seventh Annual Lady Panthers Alumnae Game - January 4

Cheltenham High School Lady Panthers alumnae are giving cancer the full court press. Now in its seventh year, the Lady Panthers Alumnae youth clinic and game on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Cheltenham High School aim to support those who are fighting cancer and raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s Coach vs. Cancer program. CHS Student Council, Skills for Life Students Donate Toys to Easterseals

For the second consecutive year, CHS Student Council partnered with Skills for Life for a toy drive supporting Easterseals of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Student Council collected funds from home rooms and bought presents at Target. Skills for Life students wrapped the presents which will be delivered to the EasterSeals Christmas party this morning.

CSD Foundation Receives $5K Donation from Forst Foundation

Lincoln Investment financial planners Lynn Craig, CFP, and Alexis Cain presented a giant $5,000 check on behalf of Lincoln’s Forst Foundation to the Cheltenham School District Foundation (CSDF) at the Tuesday, Dec. 10 legislative board meeting. The Forst family, owners of Lincoln Investment, established the Forst Foundation. CSDF will use these funds for student scholarships and innovative staff grants. This past year, CSDF awarded $8,500 in scholarships to 15 members of the CHS Class of 2019 and 33 grants totaling $25,252. Read more>

EP Students Gift Holocaust Survivor Plaque in Honor of Deceased Siblings

Elkins Park teacher Lise Marlowe's sixth grade class presented 93-year-old Auschwitz survivor Itka Zygmontowicz special plaque dedicated to the memory of her 11-year old brother Srulek and 13-year old sister, Syzl, who perished at the concentration camp on November 22, 1942. Read more>

Calendar Reminders

Monthly early dismissals are generally the second Wednesday of the month. In January, the District has early dismissal on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Schools will dismiss at the following times:

  • Cheltenham High School | 1:30 p.m.
  • Cedarbrook Middle School | 2:10 p.m.
  • Elkins Park School | 2:40 p.m.
  • K – 4 Schools | 2:45 p.m.


Winter Break

Schools and offices will be closed the following days:

  • Monday - Wednesday, Dec. 23-25

  • Tuesday - Wednesday, Dec. 31 - Jan. 1


Offices will be open the following days:

The Educational Affairs Committee met on Tuesday, Dec. 17 with school director Pam Henry presiding and all school directors present. Homework Committee Meeting

The Homework Committee will review findings from this past spring's homework survey and develop recommendations for a presentation on a revised homework policy at the February Education Affairs Committee meeting. Following the Educational Affairs presentation, recommendations will move to the Policy Committee then to the board for an adoption vote.


This meeting is open to all Cheltenham Township residents and tax payers.
