Dementia Training - February 2015
Did you know there are almost 1 million people in the UK living with dementia and nearly everyone in the UK will know or will have known someone affected by dementia. Yet there is still a lack of understanding about dementia.
Dementia is an umbrella term (like cancer) which encompasses over 100 different types of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia and Frontotemporal Dementia (Pick's Disease). Dementia's are not just about having a failing memory, dementia's are progressive brain diseases which cause brain damage. Almost 40,000 people under the age of 65 years are living with dementia in the UK.

Dementia Awareness - Informed Level Course - Costs from £20 per person for half day
Our Dementia Awareness course has been developed for anyone who is new to caring for someone living with dementia or new to working in health and social care. It is an ideal part of any induction for new staff. This could be carers, personal assistants, advocates, nurses, family members and friends.
This course is also useful for people who have limited contact with people living with dementia.such as administration staff, opticians, dentists, physiotherapists and receptionists etc...
Learning Outcomes
- Improve your awareness of the main types of dementia
- How these types of dementia progresses and how this affects the person
- Overcoming common challenges created by dementia
- Arm you with some handy hints and tips that will enable you to have better and more successful interactions with people living with dementia.

Dementia Care Practice - Skilled Level Course - from £60 per person full day course
Learning Outcomes
After attending this interactive workshop, participants will:-
- Understand the differences between the four most prevalent forms of dementia
- Know how the different types of Dementia can impact people with these conditions
- Be informed of the factors that contribute to how each individual experiences their condition
- Understand the basics of “dementia friendly” environments, and how very simple changes can enable people with dementia to feel empowered and remain independent for longer
- Be able to use the most effective means of communication, avoiding the pitfalls that can lead to frustration
- Be able to identify triggers for distressed behaviours
- Have awareness of the tools which can help staff to understand stressed and distressed behaviours, allowing them to adopt best-practice techniques
