ThunderRidge Weekly Update
January 27, 2023
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families -
It's been a busy week at ThunderRidge with classes and activities in full swing. A huge congratulations to our Unified Basketball Team as they became State Champions yesterday in an overtime win against Littleton! Our staff and students lined the halls and greeted them with cheers and applause when they arrived back at the school. It was an amazing moment for everyone.
Senior parents, mark your calendars for Senior Parent Information Night on February 16 at 5:00pm in our Auditorium. A lot happens between now and graduation on May 16, so make sure you're keeping a close eye on the 'Seniors 2023' page of our website.

Become a Teen Reading Buddy
The Highlands Ranch Library is now accepting applications to become a Teen Reading Buddy. Our Reading Buddies program pairs a trained teen volunteer with a current 1st through 3rd grade child who is having challenges with reading. The program also helps teens develop teaching and leadership roles.
Teams meet weekly at the library on either Tuesday or Thursday, 3:45 - 5:15. The spring term will run February 28 - April 27.
Apply now at https://dcl.org/volunteer/. Applications are due January 29.
For questions, please email hireadingbuddies@dclibraries.org, call 303-791-READ, or stop by a branch and talk to any of our friendly staff members!
Juniors and Seniors - Need a Parking Permit?
If you purchased a permit at the beginning of the school year, you do NOT need to purchase one now.
In order to receive a permit, all school fees must be paid with no outstanding balances in Myschoolbucks.
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program Application for the 2023-2024 school year is open
Douglas County School District offers a variety of Career & Technical Education (CTE) programming. Regional CTE programming is offered to ensure all high school students have access to quality educational programs emphasizing core academic content, Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness (PWR) competencies, technical skills, and seamless transition to further education or employment.
State approved CTE programs are taught by Douglas County School District teachers who have received State CTE credentialing in their respective discipline and program. A list of CTE courses is available in each school’s course guide.
The CTE request/application process is an additional step to be completed by students interested in accessing programs outside of their home high school, NOT for students registering in CTE programs offered at the student’s home high school.
Students work with their home high school counselor to access and complete the request for CTE courses at another DCSD location.
Please see the attached for links to more information on each regional program and contact your counselor with any questions!
The application form is open only to students logged into Google with their “s.dcsdk12.org” account.
Registration form DUE FEBRUARY 10, 2023.

Senior Board Volunteers Needed
Calling All ThunderRidge Parents!
Here is your chance to see our students at their very best!
Become a Senior Project Judge and celebrate our seniors' learning and accomplishments. This cumulative activity showcases our students’ reading, writing, and speaking skills as well as emphasizes many important “soft skills” such as time management, problem solving, and work ethic. In order for these projects to be successful we are asking for parental and community help with Senior Boards. The Senior Boards listen to and evaluate students presenting their Senior Project.
Underclassmen parents, this is a great opportunity for you to see and understand what your children will be doing their senior year. Senior parents, what better way to support your senior by serving on a board that celebrates their final high school project?
Senior Boards will take place on Friday, April 7th from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm. If you would like to participate on the Senior Boards please click on this link and complete the questionnaire. If you have any further questions, please contact Denise Orsini at Denise.Orsini@dcsdk12.org.

IB Update
As I am sure you are all aware, it is registration time and the students here at ThunderRidge High School are setting out their plans for the 2023/2024 school year. It has been a busy few weeks with all of our students coming back from break and ensuring that they have all the proper classes for the upcoming school year. With that being said, we here in the International Baccalaureate world want to make sure that all of our students know that they are eligible to take IB classes at some point in their High School career.
Students interested in taking an IBDP course must be either a Junior or a Senior, they must meet the prerequisites, and they should be aware of what the class will cover. Other than that, any student is eligible and should consider taking some of our amazing IBDP courses. We have an incredible variety of classes, and some of the best teachers around in our IB Programme. Course selections can still be made through next week.
If you are interested in learning more please see our Course offerings HERE, or email Mr. Risner at kwrisner@dcsdk12.org to set up a meeting. All course changes and selections must be made ASAP!!
