Mariner Memo
November 1, 2019
This week at Marine City Middle School...
It is hard to even type that out and a bit unbelievable to say, but it is now officially November. Our first marking period of the year ends on Monday, November 4th putting us at the 25% for the school year. On Tuesday, November 5th, 6th grade students will transition into their next exploratory class (those not taking choir or band). One other note on the transition into November...it is getting colder outside, so please urge your son or daughter to wear their cold weather gear to school. As much as possible we want to take our kids outside for some fresh air to reset for the remainder of the day. We take them outside weather permitting and this includes when it gets cold. Thanks for your help with this.
This week we had some fun things happening with our student body. The highlight of the week was definitely Wednesday as our 6th grade did their annual spelling bee, and the whole school took in the magnificence of the Marine City High School Mariner Marching Band. This special assembly has become a tradition in the Marine City Schools and it was great to see not only the middle school students getting into the music, but also the faces of our former students proudly and proficiently playing their instruments. Thanks go out to Mr. Fox and his amazing band for putting on a phenomenal performance for our students.
Next week promises to be a good one and we have something great to look forward to with our first MCMAN planned for Friday from 2:30-4:30. For those that are not familiar with MCMAN, it is an after school event for our students to play and have fun and it is something not to miss. MCMAN is an event that kids look forward to and we hope to have great participation next Friday.
Have a wonderful weekend,
-Mr. Ming
• Our first MCMAN is coming up on Friday, November 8th from 2:30 – 4:30. Admission is $3 with student ID & $5 without. There will be pizza, pop & candy for purchase. Attention parents…PTO has created a sign up genius for volunteers to help out on MCMS PTO facebook page. Lots of fun activities, such as DJ, photobooth, air brush tattoo artist & open gym. You don’t want to miss it!
On Tuesday, November 19th, there will be an informational meeting regarding the 2020 Washington DC trip. The meeting will take place in the Media Center at 6:00 pm. Please try to attend this meeting with your child, as it will have time sensitive and important information. Due to the fact that the trip will take place the second week of the 2020 school year, all travel arrangements will need to be made throughout the current school year.
7th and 8th Grade Boys basketball tryouts begin on November 5th. You must have a physical on file to try out! Boys that participated in cross-country or football for MCMS this Fall already have a physical on file, which is valid for basketball.
Attention all 8th graders...
Attention all 6th graders....
On Wednesday the 6th grade team put on their annual MCMS Spelling Bee and the students were amazing. A big congratulations goes out to the winner, Ben VanBuskirk. To all of the students that participated, WELL DONE!
