Prayers to St. Joseph For Workers ~ May 1st
Joseph, by the work of your hands
and the sweat of your brow,
you supported Jesus and Mary,
and had the Son of God as your fellow worker.
Teach me to work as you did,
with patience and perseverance, for God and
for those whom God has given me to support.
Teach me to see in my fellow workers
the Christ who desires to be in them,
that I may always be charitable and forbearing
towards all.
Grant me to look upon work
with the eyes of faith,
so that I shall recognize in it
my share in God’s own creative activity
and in Christ’s work of our redemption,
and so take pride in it.
When it is pleasant and productive,
remind me to give thanks to God for it.
And when it is burdensome,
teach me to offer it to God,
in reparation for my sins
and the sins of the world.
(Note: This prayer was taken from the booklet “Devotions to Saint Joseph” by Brian Moore, S.J., printed and published by the Society of St. Paul.)

Catholic Education Week 2022
Each year, the Catholic community of Ontario engages in a week-long celebration of the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic education during Catholic Education Week. This year’s theme is: "Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together” and will be celebrated during the week of May 1 – May 6 at St. Christopher school, this week will bring opportunities for students and staff to engage in meaningful activities and reflections to deepen our awareness and understanding of both the gift and the responsibility of Catholic education. We know that together we can continue to rebuild.
In addition, His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins will be celebrating the Catholic Education Week Mass scheduled for Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. EST. All students, families, board staff, trustees, and the broader Catholic community are invited to participate "virtually" in this celebration of the Eucharist.

We will once again also feature our annual social media campaign called #MyCatholicSchool to commemorate Catholic Education Week. Students, staff, parents, trustees and alumni, are invited to reflect on “What do you love about your Catholic school?” and share your thoughts through pictures, videos, quotes and artwork using the hashtags #MyCatholicSchool, #DPCDSB_CEW2022 and #CEW2022. Be sure to also tag our school in your social media using @stchris_dpcdsb

When Should People Mask in School?
-Cases eligible for a 5-day isolation period must continue to mask in public settings from Day 6 to 10 after testing positive or developing COVID-19 symptoms, whichever is earlier. In addition:
- reasonable exceptions include removal for essential activities like eating at work, school, or child care and maintaining as much distance as possible.
- individuals should avoid activities where mask removal may be necessary. This includes participating in sports or music activities where masks cannot be safely worn during this time period.
- individuals who are exempt from masking (e.g., children under two years of age) may return to public settings without masking.
-Close contacts who are not required to isolate must wear a mask in public settings for 10 days following their last exposure to a person with COVID-19. Similar exceptions as above for cases apply.
Community Information Bulletins
National Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace: April 28
Last Thursday, April 28th DPCDSB schools and facilities lowered their flags at half-staff, this marked the National Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace.
This also coincides with May 1st as the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker. This day highlights the special relationship Jesus had with Joseph. Jesus himself was a humble worker, trained by his carpenter father, Joseph. April 28th, National Day of Mourning therefore, further highlights the importance of safe work and prevention of workplace related tragedies.
Please join the DPCDSB community in prayer for all those who have been injured or have lost their lives while performing work related duties, as well as their families and loved ones:
Loving God, today we remember and pray for many who have been either injured or have lost their lives while performing work related duties. Help us to support those who have lost a family member or friend in this way. Help us to learn about and to care about workers who do not have fair wages, just benefits and most of all a safe working environment. Help us to continue to raise our voices for justice for all workers and the dignity of each worker and the safety of all. Amen.

ARE YOU MOVING?
As planning will begin with respect to formulating classes and general school organization for the 2022-2023 school year, please inform the office as soon as possible if you are planning to move between now and September 2022. Also, if you have already moved and not informed the office of your new address, please do so immediately as our school records must be accurate at all times.
CLASS PLACEMENTS-SEPTEMBER 2022
The staff of St. Christopher will meet during the month of May to begin discussing placements for students for September 2022. If you feel that there are specific considerations which should be addressed in determining the placement of your child, please send a letter addressed to the principal to advise us of your concerns. We ask for all submissions to be sent to the office no later than Friday, May 6th. Your request will be considered at our grade promotion meetings. We remind you that it would not be appropriate to request one teacher over another as staffing is tentative and are subject to change. However, if there is other information regarding your son/daughter‘s learning style, or other considerations of which we ought to be aware, please advise us of these facts in your letter. Our decisions are made after careful consideration of all relevant information and are based on the individual strengths and needs of each child, as such, requests for placement are not guaranteed. As well, class composition (i.e., combined grades) may be necessary due to guidelines established by the Ministry regulating class size. All letters, however, will be considered.
Direction of School Support
By directing your tax support to the Separate (Catholic) School System:
- You may vote for Catholic School Trustees in Municipal elections
- Your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
- You show your support for the Catholic school system
To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:
- Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
- Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year (2022)
Have you moved?
Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you relocate. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register yourself as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.
To register as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter or change your Direction of School Support, please contact the DPCDSB Admissions Department by phone at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or by email at admissions@dpcdsb.org.
