Parent Message: September/October
2021
Principal's Message
Greetings Mountain View Community,
We are coming into October all ready and feeling like the year has been an eventful launch. It is exciting to have our kids together again and to be in community. A few pieces of information for the coming month:
We begin cell phone “off and away” policy this week. Students may not have earbuds, headsets, or personal electronics out unless teacher gives express permission for academic use. We have been giving gentle and friendly reminders so far but there are still many devices out during classes, passing time, and lunches. We want students to engage with each other, have conversations and save their screen time for when they don’t have access to peers.
- Adults offer gentle reminder
- Device is confiscated with a receipt to student
- Device is stored in a locked drawer in the front office
- Device can be retrieved one time by student, and all subsequent times a parent must pick it up. We can be flexible about times to pick these up; administrators are frequently on site early or late in the day.
Mask wearing has been going very well. Almost all students have been excellent about wearing their masks to cover their nose and mouth, and do so without any reminders. They show great care for their community and themselves. For the students who are still not able to consistently wear their masks, we will be partnering with parents to make a plan that will work for everyone. Students cannot attend in-person school if they refuse to wear a mask. We feel confident that we can make a plan with each student who is still struggling so that our whole community is safe.
There has been some vandalism in the bathrooms. All grade levels of boys restrooms have been vandalized: every soap dispenser has been broken from the walls, other plumbing, towel dispensers and graffiti have also been found. This is a trend on Tik Tok, “Devious Licks” where students are encouraged to steal and vandalize school property. Please check talk with your student about this issue. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.
Our ONE water bottle filling station is working triple overtime! If you, or someone you know can donate water dispensers, large water cooler size water bottles, or water delivery, please reach out to me. We would appreciate anything you can offer.
Honored to Serve This Community,
Wendy Rider

One-Stop-Info-Shop (repeat from district information--but helpful)
Families, please visit the Back-to-School FAQ page on the district website. BSD will no longer use the previous webpage, titled "Health & Safety Protocols." We're transitioning all that information to the FAQ. Think of it as your "one-stop-shop."

September is Suicide Prevention Month
We care about your child’s safety and we take suicide prevention very seriously in BSD. Students may need additional support and resources as they return to busy schedules and their social and academic obligations. We encourage you to learn the warning signs of suicide and watch this video regarding talking to your students about the risk of suicide. Please reach out to your child’s school counselor if you feel your child needs additional support.
Mountain View Yearbook 20-21
Be Here Every Day; It Matters!
Attendance is critical to student success! Many students are showing great improvement in their attendance in person, but not on their days at home.
Please reinforce the need to finish the year strong! Students are most successful academically when they are attending all periods, on all days whether in person or online!
Please check in with your student on their daily attendance.
