April 2019 Newsletter

A Note from Mr. Hershey

Dear Parents,

We hope you all had a very relaxing and safe spring break. I know how hectic life can seem right now with everything wrapping up at the end of the school year and am hopeful that you were able to get away and relax with your children and family.

During the month of April, I tend to focus on the 7 Mindsets"The Time is Now." I am so thankful to be part of this learning community with our students, staff, and community. It is truly such a gift to be serving in my role and am thankful for the opportunity each and every day. I also think that it's natural to think about this being something that we do towards the end of a specific time frame similar to the motto "Finish Strong" but in reality, we want to encourage our students to live this out all the time...to embrace every moment, to be vulnerable, make mistakes and learn from them, and to act on purpose with everything that they do.

Although the GA Milestones are just around the corner, we certainly don't want to teach our students to only do their very best when the test comes around, we want them to do their best throughout the year and live "The Time is Now" mentality all the time so that they are prepared and successful for whatever challenges are in their path as they move forward throughout life. Thank you for your support with this as this is certainly a life skill that we want to develop in all of our students.

As always, we are here to partner with you to support your child. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out for support.

With much gratitude,

Derrick Hershey

Principal

The 7 Mindsets Corner

Mindset of the Month

The Time is Now mindset teaches us the importance of harnessing the power of the moment and taking purposeful action. The simple fact is that all of our power to act and make an impact exists in this moment. We cannot change the past and the future hasn’t happened, so we must recognize that our only path to happiness, fulfillment and meaning is to take purposeful action in the present toward creating the lives of our dreams.

Make sure to ask your student about what "The Time is Now" means. For more information, please click here. You will find great resources on this link that will support you as a parent.

Car Rider Reminders

Please do your very best to get your child to school on time. Although we know that the car rider line is very long, we are doing our very best to continue to make improvements to be efficient, yet keep it safe for our students. We are typically running around 400+ cars through the line every morning. The line is very light from 7:10-7:25 and then begins to be busy from 7:25-7:40. If the tardy bell rings at 7:40, please go ahead and park and walk your child into the building to check your child. This will be considered an unexcused tardy. Please continue to use the designated route and drop off only directly in the drive in front of the building. We are asking that you DO NOT drop off on the side of Majors Rd. or at PGMS.

Visiting Shiloh Soon?

When you visit Shiloh Point, it is our policy that your check in with your identification. We do this for the safety of our students. Please make sure to bring your ID with you prior to coming on our campus so that we can get you checked in and on your way for your appointment, meeting, or visit with your child.

No Lunch Visitors during GA Milestones

Parents are welcome to visit to have lunch with your students as we know this is a great way to have parents connect with their students at school; however, please note that we will not have visitors joining us for lunch during the GA Milestones testing as our lunch schedules are shifting to accommodate the testing schedule. Testing dates include April 15th-April 26th.
