John Glenn

Before space

John Glenn was born on july 18, 1921 in Cambridge, Ohio. John Glenn started flying when he first joined the Naval aviation cadet program in 1942. After he graduated this program, In 1943 he joined the marine corps and flew in about 150 missions.


After he left the marines, Glenn was selected as a project Mercury astronaut. Glenn flew on Mercury-6 and STS-95 and has logged over 218 hours in space. On february 20, 1962, Glenn piloted Mercury-atlas 6 or Friendship 7 spacecraft on the first manned orbital mission of the United States.
