细胞

(cell)

Cell membrane

-viscous cytoplasmic film that surrounds cell
-keeps pathogenic material out and nutrients in; gives shape to cell
-Animal cells only

Cell wall

-surrounds plant cell (similar to cell membrane)
-keeps pathogenic material out and nutrients in; gives shape to cell
-plant cells only

Cytoplasm

-jelly-ike substance; fills entire cell
-allows for important chemical reactions to take place; enables the carrying of nutrients, given that they're in liquid form
-both plant and animal

nucleus

-located at the center of cell
-provides 1st layer of defense for nucleolus
-both plant and animal

nuclear membrane

-a thick film of cytoplasm (similar to cell membrane)
-protects nucleus and nucleolus; allows nutrients in
-both plant and animal

nucleolus

-the second layer to the nuclear envelope
-acts as a second barrier for the nuclear envelope and the chromatin within
-both animals and plant

centrioles

-carries the resemblance of perforation marks
-guides the structural formation during the cell's division in mitosis
-both plant and animal

chromatin

-spaghetti or hair strands
-gives blue prints or genetic information for which the cell to be built off of
-both plant and animal

ribosomes

-minute pearls situated along the rough E.R
-produces protein
-both plant and animal

golgi apparatus

-shape of pita pocket
-stores nutrients/energy of cell
-both plant and animal

Endoplasmic reticulum

-similar to veins; provides paths of movement just like a highway
-transports nutrients and waste
-both plant and animal

mitochondria

-looks like a pill
-makes energy for cell
-both animal and plant

*mitochondria in the animal cell of every human is found to have trace DNA of the same makeup

chloroplast

-similar shape to mitochondria
-carries out photosynthesis
-plants only

lysosomes

-small dots located on the outermost interior layer of cell membrane
-breaks down macronutrients
-animal and plant

peroxisomes

-identical placement and shape as lysosomes
-make important chemical reactions on the surface of cell membrane
-animals and plant

vacuole

-big balloon of water (is much bigger in plant cells)
-stores water; very similar to the function of a reservoir
-animal and plant

cytoskeleton

-a bolstering network of branching tendrils of thick jelly
- keeps the cytoplasm within a cell stationary and definitive formation
- plant and animal
