FCCLA was first founded in 1945 as the club Future Homemakers of America.
FCCLA was founded to help young men and women to become leaders in their home, career, and community. Programs within the organization, alongside Family Sciences education address personal, family, career, and social issues and how to properly handle them.
Purposes
- To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.
- To strengthen the function of the family as the basic unit of society.
- To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.
- To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
- To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.
- To provide opportunities for making decision and for assuming responsibilities.
- To provide for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society.
- To promote family and consumer sciences, family and consumer sciences careers and related occupations.
FCCLA Traditions
Colors: Red and White
Red stands for strength, courage, and determination. White stands for sincerity of purpose and integrity of action.
Emblem:
This futuristic logo shows that FCCLA is a dynamic, active organization bound for the future. The dominate collegiate lettering articulates a focus on education and student leadership. The logo is red, the color of the rose as a sign of strength. The swooping arrow arch is a common motif in today's designs and definitely embodies an active organization that moves toward new arenas.
