Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
On Thursday, May 26th, all elementary school students, their families, and community members are invited to join us at our first end-of-year elementary school Celebration of Learning! This event, which will be held between 5:00-6:15PM in Wamogo's main gymnasium, will feature each elementary school student's personally selected work that showcases his or her best effort, such as written pieces, mathematical representations, artwork, MakerSpace creations, science models, custom musical instruments and more.
Visitors are welcome to arrive at any point during the 75-minute window and to visit the variety of stations that will be arranged in the gymnasium, at least one of which will feature your child's work. Teachers will be at their respective stations to greet and assist you as you explore. We look forward to seeing all of you at this new event, the latest in our series of connections between the students and staff of all three of our RSD6 elementary schools!
Spelling Bee Finalists
Congratulations to Emma Zontok, the winner of the JMS Spelling Bee, and to our second place finisher Chandler Coe, both of whom will represent JMS at our District Spelling Bee being held at Goshen Center School on Tuesday, May 17th. A pizza dinner will be served to all contestants and their families at 6:00PM, and the competition will begin at 6:30PM.
Oratory Finalists
This Tuesday, the ten students who previously had advanced to the finals in our oratory competition performed before an audience of family members, students, staff, and a panel of judges. Judging was done for the third year in a row by Wamogo's renowned Parliamentary Procedure Team. Five students advanced from these finals, and each of these students is invited to present their speeches to the community on Memorial Day weekend. These five students are listed below and are backed by their peer Ned Urion, who was selected as the alternate.

Congratulations, Mrs. Connery
Always modeling life-long learning and a growth mindset, JMS's talented reading specialist and literacy coach, Mrs. Barbara Connery, just completed her final coursework to earn a Masters Degree in Writing from the Graduate Institute. Congratulations, Mrs. C!
Family Portrait Opportunity
Heather Norris, our school photographer, is offering family portraits. Please see attached flyer for details.
BoxTops Adding Up
To this point this year, we have collected 4,960 BoxTops! Thanks to your hard work, JMS will receive approximately $600 for school programs. There will be one more collection at the end of the school year, and collections will resume in September, so please continue snipping tops over the summer. All grades are doing a wonderful job, highlighted by pre-kindergarten’s 1,200 collected. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jordana Hood at hoodfamily4@yahoo.com .
Math Discussion for Parents
Please join Mrs. Robin Moore, Elementary Math Coordinator, and myself at 9:00AM on Tuesday, June 7th for our second "math chat" of the school year. Our goals for this session are to gather your feedback regarding your child(ren)'s experience with math this year and to share with you the work that the district's Math Philosophy Committee has completed to date. Finally, Mrs. Moore will provide information and resources designed to help parents with the ongoing shifts in the teaching of math and will show how these resources can help guide parents in supporting their children with math at home.
Kindergarten Registration
Regional School District No. 6 is currently conducting kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year. Children must be 5 years of age on or before December 31st of this year to be eligible for kindergarten enrollment this fall. Please call our main office at 860-567-7420 to request a registration packet. (See notice below)
6th Graders to select Middle School Electives
On behalf of our colleagues at the middle school, we ask that parents of JMS 6th-graders have a discussion with their child(ren) about taking a foreign language. The complete Program of Studies for 7th and 8th grade students can be found on Wamogo's website here. There will be a parent night at Wamogo in May where the middle school team can answer questions and address concerns about 7th grade. More details about this event to follow.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments or concerns.
Thank you,
