You have the right to bear arms.
it doesn't stop criminals from getting guns.
In an article by Erich Pratt, he stated that gun control has consistently failed to keep bad guys from getting firearms. He also stated that with thousands of pages of failed gun laws already on the books , it's insane to think that enacting more restrictions will work any better. Also on a procon article it stated that out of 62 mass shootings 49 of the shooters legally obtained guns. John R. Lott says " the problem with such gun control laws is that they take away fund from law abiding citizens." Also according to statistics 37.4% of state prison inmates who used a gun in a crime obtained a gun from a family member or friend.
Second amendment guarantees the right to bear arms
The second amendment reads " a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state , the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." On an article on procon it stated that gun ownership is an old American tradition and is protected by the second amendment. More gun control laws would infringe on the right to bear arms. An opinion syllabus stated that " the second amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with a service in the militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes such as self defense within the home."
Gun laws don't keep guns away from bad guys.
" the theory that the restriction or elimination of guns would have a positive effect on the overall suicide rate in the U.S. does not hold up under scrutiny." - Jim Barret
Suicide rates won't decrease if there are stricter laws on guns.
On a procon article it stated that Lithuania has one of the worlds lowest gun ownership rates but it's suicide rates was the highest rate among 71 countries. Japan is also another location with a low gun ownership rate but high suicide rate along with South Korea. In contrast the U.S. Has the 26th highest suicide rate and the highest gun ownership.
