Jag E-News
Week 30: March 28-April 1, 2022
Hey Jags,
We are in the process of spring cleaning and are clearing out our Lost & Found. We have been making announcement in the morning and at lunch, but please remind your students to check the lost & found for misplaced shoes, water bottles, hoodies, etc. All items remaining after Friday, April 1st will be donated to local charities and organizations.
Today, March 27, is the deadline for parents and students to verify their course selection in Skyward for 2022-23. This information was sent to you previously by our counseling team, but you can also find further details below and on our website.
I hope that you will consider partnering with our PTO in their efforts to raise money for our school through the Silent Auction. You can donate handmade items, gift baskets, experiences, or anything you think that someone would bid on. We hope to make this a successful fundraiser and we know that it is even better when we come together to make that happen.
Please save the date for Friday, April 22 from 6:00-8:00pm. Our PTO will be hosting JAG Madness--an evening for family and friends filled with games, food, music and fun!!
This week, students will be watching a video in advisory that was a part of the FBISD Whole Child Health Initiative and focuses on Social Media Awareness. If you have not had a chance to watch it yet, I encourage you to watch it so it can be a part of you conversation at home. Click here to watch the video.
Let's make it a great week Jags!
Sincerely,
Cholly Oglesby
Principal

PE Updates
In April many of our SMS students will begin observing the month of Ramadan and will begin fasting. If your child plans on fasting, and would like to be excused from PE, a note is required from the parent, or the religious organization, with the start and end date. We are aware that many students pick and choose days to fast but this can be difficult to monitor, therefore, if a note is brought in the student will be excused from all physical activity for the entire month and will be provided with alternate assignments. Students will still be required to dress out daily. Some students are currently preparing for Ramadan and fasting early. If your child is doing this, we also request that you send a note with specific days this will be happening up to April 2nd. Thank you so much for your support and understanding!
Volunteer Opportunities
Campus Beautification Project
Our 6th Grade Jag Discovery students are eager to work on their service-learning project. Service learning is an educational process through which students learn by participating in a project that meets a need in their communities. "Service" and "learning" are complimentary- the service aspect makes the learning relevant to students' lives and increases student motivation.
With this project, we would like to enhance the appearance of our school courtyard by planting plants and trees to be enjoyed by our entire school community. We would LOVE the help of our parents and community. Here are a few ways you can help:
1) DONATE: Please consider donating soil, mulch, plants, and/or gift cards. You can sign-up for one or more items and drop them off at school the week of March 21-25.

2) VOLUNTEER: If you have a green thumb or do not mind digging in the dirt, we would love your help. Volunteers are needed to help prune existing plants and prep flower beds, and plant and mulch the beds. Please bring tools that you may have such as hedge shears, rakes, and shovels.
