Westwood Families,
Earlier this year, students engaged in a 3D design process to develop and implement their ideas to improve Westwood. Students worked together to create a student council in grades 5 and 6 and further develop the Panther Mentor program in grades 7 and 8.
Now, there is some great work underway. The student council has met, and they are working on a teacher support project, a clean up the playground project with the spring thaw, and we have four student leaders who are writing and broadcasting morning announcements. I’m impressed with their use of the 3D design process and how they are implementing their ideas.
Here are a few additional updates for this week:
- Book fair: The PTO Book Fair is happening now during “I Love to Read Month.” The book fair is open during the school day and Thursday evening from 3:30 – 5 p.m. during our scheduled office hours and until 7:30 p.m. for the welcome event for grade 4 students and families.
- High school registration – for 8th grade families: We hope our 8th graders and families are able to make it to the high school kickoff event this evening. We’ll continue to support students in their registration process and please know our Westwood and high school counselors are here to help make this a smooth transition.
- Transition to middle school – for 6th grade families: We will be hosting an online information session for families of 6th grade students on February 15 to share information about the transition to middle school. Join us on WebEx at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. All sessions will be the same. The sessions will focus on grade 7 and 8 programming, registration, and schedules for middle school. Join the sessions of your choice using this WebEx link.
- Face masks: Yesterday, the school board approved changes to the district’s Face Mask Decision Making Guide that will be in place beginning February 25 through the end of the school year. If you missed it, see the update that went out earlier today with details.
- No school – Feb. 17-21: Please remember there is no school for students on Thursday, February 17 through Monday, February 21.
I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the Super Bowl, and/or Super Bowl commercials.
