Newsletter Week 5, Term 4
Huirangi Primary School, Monday 14th November 2022
Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!
Unfortunately we have had several incidences over the past two weeks that have stemmed from social media and gaming situations outside of school hours. I strongly encourage all of you to monitor your child's use of Snapchat and Fortnite, and educate them about what is appropriate behaviour and what is not. It has been really disappointing having to 'clean up messes' that have been caused outside of school time and not on school grounds because of inappropriate use of social media platforms.
On a brighter note, our Whānau Hui last Thursday evening was excellent! Thank you to those of you who made the time to attend. Paul spoke from the heart and gave us some pearls of wisdom when it comes to our own mental health and that of our children.
School is a busy, fun place to be!
Ngā mihi nui,

Fred Hollows Humanitarian Award
The Fred Hollows Humanitarian Awards are open to any Year 5 or 6 student who has demonstrated the values of compassion, integrity and kindness.
This year Lilah and Phillipa were nominated for their fundraising efforts and organisation of our Wacky Hair/Wig Wednesday. We were so proud to hear that they both made it into the top 10 finalists out of 240 nominees across New Zealand!
They were surprised with a zoom to announce their achievements, and also received a really cool goodie bag each.
Ka mutu pea ngā kotiro! We are very proud of you!
Huirangi School Buddy Gift Exchange
Our school is doing the Buddy gift exchange again this year. Gifts (to a value of no more than $10) are to be wrapped in festive paper and named To: …. From: …. and the House the student is in (Tui, Kiwi or Pukeko) and brought into the office any time from now on please.
All gifts need to be at school by Wednesday 7th December at the latest please.
The names of who the children are buying for have been sent home but if you haven't received these or your children are unsure on who their buddy is, you are welcome to phone the school office on 06 752 0606.
Cluster Athletics
On Thursday, 24th November, it is our annual cluster athletics sports meeting. The whole school will travel by bus to TET Stadium in Inglewood, leaving school straight after morning roll. We will spend all day there, and travel back to school by bus, leaving TET Stadium by 2:15pm.
Please complete this form if you intend on taking your child home from Inglewood yourself. Booking buses isn't cheap! If you have already completed the online form, you don't need to do it again. Thanks.Children will need a full water bottle, lunch, their school sun hat, sunscreen, suitable sports clothing and sports shoes (compulsory for Year 3-6 children running on the track). Children will be given a Huirangi School PE Top to compete. Please wash and return to school.
Tikorangi Home and School will be fundraising by selling food and drinks at lunch, so bring spare change if you wish.
Parents, you are welcome to come and watch and support your children, just give them the space to participate by themselves.
If the event is cancelled we will put an alert over the School App.

Children Arriving at School Early or Late
We understand that some children need to be at school early due to parents work commitments. We have noticed recently that there are more children than usual turning up at school just before 8.15am. This has resulted in a few behaviour incidences that have occurred before 8.30am, which impacts on our busy teachers prepping for the day. Please ensure your early drop off is genuine. Thank you.
If your child/ren arrive at school after the 9am bell it is important that they report to the school office before going to class. This is for Health and Safety reasons as we must know who is on site at all times.
