This Week...

Everyday Math

We will begin unit two on Tuesday of next week. Unit two will cover the following skills:

  • Place value up to millions
  • Number worth
  • Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction
  • Identifying numbers in standard and expanded form.

Below are pictures of our students completing a HyperDoc to help them review for the test. A HyperDoc is a Google Doc with a variety of different activities related to a certain topic.

Science & Social Studies


This week we began our first investigation of "Identifying Properties of Rocks". The students worked within their science groups to identify properties of the Mock Rocks. The pictures below show the students examining their Mock Rocks.

**Ask your student...What is an example of a property you could use to identify a rock? (texture, color, mass)

Social Studies

This week we learned about the events of September 11th and continued our learning about the U.S. Government. Our students wrote heartfelt letters to the Fort Atkinson Police Department thanking them for their commitment to our community. We also learned about the U.S. Constitution.


Writer's Workshop

Our All About the Author pieces are officially finished! They are hung right outside of our classroom by our students' hooks. Your student also created an online writing portfolio that will showcase their writing pieces for the remainder of the year!

Reader's Workshop

Next week we will begin our first Unit of Study. Each quarter we will focus on a certain theme and within each theme we will be writing three writing pieces: a narrative fiction, informational, and argumentative. Tuesday we will begin quarter one's theme of taking responsibility.

Be Connected to our Classroom!


We have time in our schedule everyday to have a snack and milk break. Please send your child to school with a small snack to enjoy during this time.

CS First Club

This year the 4th grade teachers are starting a computer science club facilitated through Google. Is your child interested in technology? Are they creative? Do they enjoy problem solving? Then this is the club for them! All you need to do is email Mrs. Perkins at to enroll your student.

This club is open to 4th and 5th graders at Purdy and it is completely free! Club meetings will be held every Tuesday after school from 3:15-4:15 beginning September 27th.
