FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE
I don't want to burst any bubbles, but I don't create the weekly eNews you read on your smartphones, tablets, or computers. Madonna does that. I just write my articles, but she does the hard work - which I make even harder by getting her my article at the last second of the deadline. Today, Madonna sent me an E-Mail entitled "LAST ENEWS REMINDER...", and it struck me that this is the last time she'll ever have to send me a reminder for my article. She retires in exactly one week. The fact that this school year is ending is dawning on me, and that feeling always comes with such mixed emotions. However, with a school year that ended like this one, those feelings are particularly pronounced.
We didn't have the end together we initially envisioned last August, but it was still beautiful in its own way. Earlier this week, our fifth grade Eagles and their families watched a beautiful montage video created by Kim Borri of their K-5 years at Fox Ridge and Norton Creek set to music from concerts they performed in a Google Hangouts room. It wasn't the same as being in the community room watching it, but we also have never been able to have this many parents watch it with their Eagles together for the first time either. The same goes for our Virtual Field Day. While it may not be the same as doing it all together as a student body, Eagles have never been able to participate in Field Day as a family.
Norton Creek has been making lemonade out of lemons all spring, and for that, I could not be prouder of this school community. It is the mark of a truly resilient community when you can take disappointment and magically turn it into a celebration. Certainly, it is how we feel for our teachers and staff moving on to new adventures - whether it be through retirement like Mrs. Pauling, Mrs. Strom, Mrs. Klos, Mrs. Gilroy (who will be subbing frequently next year!), and Mrs. Payne or new schools like Mrs. Jordahl, Mrs. Amaya, Mrs. Holmer, and Miss Vial. We are sad to see them go, but grateful for all they have done for our students, families, and colleagues and excited for new beginnings to new adventures. The same holds true for our fifth graders. It has been our truest pleasure and such an honor to be a part of and watch them grow and develop into the awesome almost-sixth graders they all are today.
Tony Stark says in the beginning of "Avengers: Endgame," "Part of the journey is the end." Whether this is the end of your time at Norton Creek or the end of a school year that will see you back with us in the fall, I want to thank you for making Norton Creek who we are. I hope you have enjoyed your experience. Have a wonderful summer! Be kind, be respectful, be problem-solvers, and be safe!

As this school year comes to a close, we want to send our gratitude to all of our school community. Families, students, volunteers, teachers and staff - THANK YOU for your commitment and dedication to our school. Whether you attended one of our PTO events, volunteered your time, chaired a committee, helped with a fundraiser, donated items for our staff appreciation and Veterans Day luncheons, purchased books at one of our book fairs, assisted your child with eLearning, helped with a Caring Eagles project, sent your child to school ready to learn each day, showed kindness to someone or shared a smile, please know that each and every member of our school family is appreciated! Have a great summer, everyone!

We send our best wishes for a happy retirement to Sarah Gilroy, Deb Klos, Deborah Pauling, Jennifer Payne and Madonna Strom! These ladies have given so much to Norton Creek and we wish them the best. If you would like to bring a card, note and/or artwork and leave it in the box on the Carlson porch (2414 Adelia Ln) we will deliver the items to these special ladies throughout the month of May.
