MR. MELA'S MESSAGE
We hope you are doing well in the last weeks of summer. This week has been great as the staff have returned. We are making excellent progress in planning for the start of the year. It feels really good to have people back in the building and it will be even better when the students return.
We are working on some videos and information that will be shared next week, which will show and describe many details (arrival and dismissal procedures, bathroom use, mask breaks, etc.) that will be important for this year.
It is essential that all students have a completed Back-to-School packet, as the packet contains vital information such as health conditions and emergency contacts. The Back-to-School packet also includes permission sign-offs allowing students access to resources such as technology. If you have not completed an on-line Back-School packet in Aspen for each of your children, please do so as soon as possible.
It is important to note that families must give permission on an annual basis for their child to receive over-the-counter medications, use technology, be included in school publications or directories. Until such permission is given, it will be assumed that permission is denied. Upon approval by appropriate school personnel, the data will be updated and available in real-time.
Many thanks to the Curtis Parent Organization, especially Cheryl Furdon, Jana Quinn and Julianna's Catering for the delicious Back-to-School luncheon provided for staff. We appreciate the extra effort it took to make this work!
Enjoy the Labor Day weekend,
Jeff Mela
Principal
A MESSAGE FROM THE CURTIS COUNSELORS
We are eagerly anticipating the beginning of the school year and welcoming your children back to school, both in person and virtually. We know that this has been a challenging time for all of us and we want to let you know that we are here for you. We have been planning and preparing for supporting your children in a safe and supportive way whether your child is learning in the hybrid mode or the Remote Academy.
Over the next couple of weeks, you will have opportunities to share information about your child with your child’s teachers and support team. Our staff will be working collaboratively to ensure we are addressing students’ social emotional needs, in addition to their academic needs. We recognize the importance of helping students to manage the social and emotional challenges this pandemic has put upon us. Relationship-building and making students feel safe and cared for are paramount in our work this year.
Please use this link to explore the newly revised SPS Social-Emotional Resources for Parents website which has been updated to include an additional section for COVID-related resources.
In addition, for any families that may need community support for health or financial reasons, the town social worker, Bethany Hadvab, has compiled a list of resources: Town of Sudbury Comprehensive COVID-19 Resource Guide. Also, you can reach out to the SPS Social Worker, Jenn Vlacovsky at jennifer_vlacovsky@sudbury.k12.ma.us.
We are looking forward to seeing our students again. Please feel free to contact us if you have a question or concern about your child.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ECMS HEALTH OFFICE
STUDENT MEDICATION DROP-OFF TO ECMS HEALTH OFFICE
Tuesday 9/8/2020 thru Friday 9/11/2020 from 10 am to 2 pm
( Allergy/Asthma/Seizure Care Plans and any Medications for School)
Each school year the health office needs an updated order for a prescription or over-the-counter medication signed by a doctor or health care provider along with updated medical orders to administer medication.
If your child needs:
Daily medication during the school day
Medication on an as needed basis (including over-the counter)
An epi-pen for an allergy
An inhaler for asthma
Medication for a seizure disorder
For epi-pens, inhalers, or seizures this can be an allergy, asthma, or seizure care plan signed by your child’s pediatrician, allergist, or neurologist. Attached are the medication order forms below, as well as asthma and allergy care plans for your convenience. The forms can also be found on the SPS website under directory->health office->forms.
Please bring to Curtis:
Medication in the original bottle/box with the pharmacy label indicating your child’s name, medication name, dose, and time to be given
A signed doctor’s order
A signed allergy/asthma/seizure care plan
Call 978-443-1071, ext. 7509 or 7528 when you are in your car outside of the Main Office loop. A nurse will come outside to meet you to review the medication orders, count pills, & sign-off receiving the medication in a designated area. Please wear a mask.
Medications, epi-pens, and/or inhalers will not be accepted without MD signed orders/care plans. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your cooperation,

*Note: Students that self-carry their own epi-pens or inhalers still need medical authorization that they may independently be responsible for their medications & an order needs to be on file in the health office. Students will need to demonstrate their knowledge of allergy triggers and how to administer their medication.
Your physician’s office may print out their own version of an allergy, asthma, or seizure care plan which is acceptable.
A REMINDER FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF INCOMING 7TH GRADE STUDENTS:
Immunizations are one of the most effective strategies we have for preventing disease. We realize the intense pressure families and health care providers are facing in the setting of COVID-19, which is why vaccinating against vaccine-preventable diseases is important to reduce the overall burden of disease in our communities. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) Immunization Division has issued new requirements during these unprecedented times.
Influenza vaccine requirement for all students in grades K-12 before Dec. 31, 2020
Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) requirement for entry into Grades 7 and 11
In addition to the new immunization requirements, the DPH mandates documentation of a current physical exam and an updated immunization record for admission to Grade 7. It must include a Tdap booster [tetanus, diphtheria, & pertussis (whooping cough) within the last five (5) years] and two (2) doses of varicella vaccine (chickenpox) OR signed medical documentation of child having had chickenpox disease (month and year).
If your child has the necessary immunizations, please forward a current physical exam and immunization record dated within the past 13 months to the ECMS Health Office.
If your child has NOT received the necessary immunizations, please obtain an appointment for a physical exam to receive the required immunizations before the start of school (if possible). The school immunization requirements apply to all Massachusetts students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 12, regardless of whether the district is providing instruction in-person, or using a hybrid or remote learning model.
Please send your child’s physical exam and immunization record to the attention of the Health Office by 10/16//2020. It may be mailed to 22 Pratts Mill Road or faxed to (978) 443-1098.
If you have any questions, please email
