Jesse Boyd Elementary School~~~ November 26, 2018

Greetings from Dr. Rose

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The week prior to Thanksgiving was so special here at JBE. Thursday, we had our annual Thankful Thursday celebration. Even with the amazingly cold, rainy, somewhat sleet-like weather, we had a massive turnout. I continue to admire the Thankful Tree made by our students. Their responses to what they are thankful for are just beautiful-from their parents, family, our school, Krispie Kreme, and even me! Even in tough times, there is ALWAYS a reason to be thankful. The week prior to Thanksgiving, we also had our annual Boosterthon Fun Run. While at first I was disappointed that we were inside instead of outside, the excitement of having 5 runs was awesome. Running with each grade level gave me so many reasons to smile. The encouragement they gave each other, the determination of students to complete their laps, and the cheering from our parents gave my heart a reason to smile. We really do have the most amazing kids and I was reminded with each lap I made that there really is no place I'd rather be than JBE.

We have just a few short weeks before Winter Holidays. Within those weeks, we will have continuous, rigorous learning engagements with our students. While we do have many extra events planned in the next few weeks (many of them you'll see in the car line), we are continuing to focus on teaching and learning even in December. As I state in May #maymatters, but in December we are focused on #deliberatedecember.

Thanks for the amazing Boosterthon!!! Although we had to move it inside, our students still had a great time. Thank you so much for your support of our PTSO and our school. Please continue to remind your family and friends to get those pledges into our school. Our pledge total met our goal now we want to make sure we collect all of those pledges.

Because we were not outside, the 3rd-5th grade students did not get to have their color run and Mr. Duvall and I were not slimed. Have no fear. This will be happening!!!! The Boosterthon team will be coming back soon for these two events.

Recent Burglary

Many of you probably saw on the news media about a weekend burglary at Jesse Boyd. We were very saddened to discover on Saturday that someone had broken into the school; however, we are so glad that this was discovered just after the burglary and not on Monday morning. We are a very proactive school. We have many layers of protection-many that you are even unaware of in most instances-and luckily those protective layers were in place preventing the thieves from stealing very much. The robbers were able to find a broken Ipad, a digital camera, and about $70. As in any event, the administration team is working to ensure that our school is as safe as possible. We are so very grateful to Spartanburg City Police for their quick response to this incident. We are so lucky to have them as part of our team. We do have several cameras in our school and the police have released pictures of the thieves which they have shared on their website and social media. They ask you to contact them should you have any information.

Vote for Ms. Emma UNTIL November 30th!!!

Safe Kids Spartanburg has nominated our precious Miss Emma for a National award, the America's Favorite Crossing Guard. The winning school receives $10,000 and they very much would love for Miss Emma to be recognized.

You can vote today through November 30th and you can vote more than one time. Please consider doing this and feel free to share the link with your family and friends.
