Fine Arts Educators Communication: Week of September 12-16

All Fine Arts: Updates

I hope your start of the school year has had many positive moments allowing you to prioritize creating meaningful rapport with your students and colleagues. This is the first of a bi-monthly newsletter I will send out to keep you informed and focused on our departmental goals for the year. Our departmental goals include unpacking our standards, fostering a growth mindset across our department and implementing our Kennedy Center Partnership.

We have welcomed several new fine arts department members since our inservice. Please welcome Michelle Dobbs, elementary music and Maurica Roland, high school chorus. The new staffing is attached in the email.

The first Fine Arts events of the year have already happened! Escambia High School has hosted a regional percussion day and Thursday, 9/15 Washington High School has their first theater performance of the year, Orchestra has held ECYO auditions with a record number of students auditioning, and High School Chorus has held All County auditions this week.

Please remember to send both Kim Steffanson and myself your calendar events well in advance. Lead teachers may also input your calendar events at: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/render?pli=1#main_7 Our school board members, Mr. Thomas, ECSD Superintendent, and myself enjoy attending as many events as we can possibly attend. Please send your events so we can place them on our district calendar and make plans to support you by attending your events.

All Elementary: Important Grading Expectations for Focus

All elementary special area teachers are expected to minimally comply by inputing one (1) Nine weeks grade. Elementary teachers do not have the unreasonable expectation of inputing 600 weekly grades. (Please note that if you wish to input grades weekly or more, of course, you may.) We will be going to standards based grading within the next two years, so it may behoove you to make it a practice to submit weekly grades. Elementary students receive either an 'N', 'S' or 'U' grade in music and art. Elementary Music:

We have three upcoming district-wide events that directly impact you: Veterans Day celebrations, All County Honors Chorus and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra (PSO) concert for 5th graders. Hopefully you will begin your auditions for All County this week or next. See the fine arts website for all links for all county: http://ecsd-fl.schoolloop.com/finearts

The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Information is also coming up right before the All County Chorus Concert. This week I will send the field trip information out so you can begin the field trip process. Please send in the information by 9/14. You can access the PSO teacher packet directly from their website: https://www.pensacolasymphony.com/ .

Please send your event dates and times for any Veteran's Day celebrations at least three weeks before the event to me and Kim Steffanson.
