Dare to be Different!
The New Guy's Observations: Week 2
Our first parent coffee resulted in some outstanding feedback. Our parents expressed appreciation for the effort of our teachers, and also acknowledge there are areas they would like to see improved at East. As I continue my parent coffees I would encourage parents to please join me and share your feedback. The parent/school partnership is imperative for student success! One way you can partner with the school is by support the PTC
Not only did my first parent meeting result in good feedback, but my student leader meetings provided me with an amazing amount of insight. There is no doubt middle school kids will "tell it like it is!" Some of the key takeaways thus far are:
- They really like their teachers and the fun things they do in their classes.
- They enjoy being around their friends.
- Extra-curricular activities, sports, clubs and other afterschool events are a huge incentive for many of our students.
- Student behavior during passing period has room for improvement.
- Making sure rules are consistent is important to them.
- East is a great school!
These kids really gave outstanding and thoughtful answers. This along with the parent's input is so valuable as I continue observing the great things that happen at East. I hope I can utilize this information to improve and help us become one of the best middle schools in the state of Indiana! Thank you for your support!
Monday Staff Meeting: Mandatory Canvas Training
Items to Bring: Yourself and Your full attention and thoughts
- ISTEP Update (Amy Miller)
- School Environment Activity
Student Hallway Supervision
- Be consistent, calm, and respectful. Your energy will determine their energy.
- Be present and attentive. Your awareness helps our success.
- Find the greatness; praise the greatness.
- Be on time to your locations. If that is outside of your room or a specific location in the building. Your presence is necessary for their safety and our schools climate.
Hallway behavior can easily spill over into the classroom. We must all be diligent in helping stop negative behavior during all passing periods. Please help maintain a positive atmosphere during every passing period. As I continue evaluating our processes I will be looking for trouble spots and areas of concern to help us improve student behavior in the hallways. We may need to reevaluate hallway supervision positions and responsibilities. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
