Senior Portfolio Presentations
January 15, 2016
Dear Beacon Families:
Hello & Happy New Year! I cannot believe we are already heading in to the second half of the school year. As being new to Beacon and Founders, the last 5 months has been quite exhilarating; there is just so much to take in and experience!
As we head toward the end of January it is time for Beacon Senior Artists to present their Portfolios. For the seniors this is such an important part of their final year here at Beacon. It is an opportunity for them to truly reflect not only on their arts night and their art but on the past 4 years allowing them the opportunity to verbalize and communicate how they have grown as a student artist. This experience of presenting their work and having to communicate and express their thoughts and ideas about their work enables the student to truly discover the "voice" that they might have in their work.
Quite an opportunity for a young student heading out into the world? I agree. Beacon’s senior student artists have been diligently working on their graduation portfolios and this opportunity to present and reflect on their high caliber of work should be witnessed by the students’ family and friends. To that end, I am cordially inviting you to attend the 2016 Senior Portfolio Presentations. All presentations will take place at Beacon in the Film Room on the 4th floor.
Here is the schedule:
Tuesday, January 26, 2016, 6pm – Visual Arts
Wednesday, January 27, 2016, 6pm –Culinary Arts
Thursday, January 28, 2016, 6pm - Theatre Arts
Please consider attending your child’s Senior Portfolio Presentation as well as any additional presentations your schedule allows. Please note that all senior student artists are required to bring one person from any facet of their life that they want to have witness their work. Each student will be asked to identify who they have chosen and to briefly explain why that person was invited to witness his/her work. I am confident that this process will help our students to realize their accomplishments.
I look forward to meeting you in late January as we share in championing the success of our senior student artists. If you have any questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 401-671-6261 x107.
Many blessings to you and yours for a happy, healthy, inspiring and imaginative 2016.
Brian Hickey, M.Ed., Dean of the Arts
