CONGRATS
We are so happy for ALL of our Environmental Fair winners and Honorable Mentions, especially our class community winners:
BJ, J'den & Lundyn: The Best Soil
The winners will be competing at the District Science Fair this weekend. We wish them luck!!!
Unit of Study: Forces & Motion
Ask your scientist about what they are learning from the construction of their car and the way force affects its motion. Our reflection questions so far:
What do we know about how vehicles move?
What do we know about how vehicles are designed?
How did we get our car to move?
What was a problem our group had while building our vehicle? How did we solve the problem?
What was the connection between the amount of force and the speed of the car?
Unit of Study: 1920s
Langston Hughes
We have been inquiring into writings by Langston Hughes as we learn more and grow as readers and writers. We have been using our close reading strategies to make sense of the poem and a graphic organizer to organize our thinking. We have been using our analysis of these poems to respond to a text-dependent question. This requires us to use evidence from the text to support our thinking. Not only are these poems supporting our growth as readers and writers, but we are also learning about the African American experience of the 1920's through these poems.
Mini-lessons
Your learner has been working in small groups to develop lessons around concepts from the 1920's. In order to develop these lessons, several factors had to be considered:
- how to be a helpful team member
- how to determine importance of a text
- how to select key details to support main ideas
- how to share information in a helpful way for others to understand
- how to make a chart visually pleasing for my audience
- how to be an active audience member and listen with intention to learn
