Sunflower Parent Update
August 19, 2020
Staff is back on duty! We are one step closer to our school year! They have been busy in professional development sessions focused on remote learning expectations, curriculum guidelines, digital tools, developing relationships online and more! We are excited to bring you a rigorous and robust learning experience in the fall! This update is full of items you could be doing in preparation of the school year. I have embedded videos on on how to set up spaces for remote learning as well as how to get started with Webex, our new video conferencing platform. Please start familiarizing your children with our online BEST learning expectations.
Teachers are currently working on their grade level schedules and we will follow a school master schedule that will be shared at a later date. In addition, we have started our school landing page that you can access HERE for a preview. This page will allow parents and students to view the weeks' learning goals and assignments at-a-glance in addition to providing you contact information for all staff.
We will be reaching out to families to schedule listening and learning conferences prior to the start of the school year. These conferences will take place Sept. 1-3. Also during this week we will be handing out devices to students who do not have a school device. We will also hand our AVID school wide binders, grade level supplies and yearbooks from last year during this time. We will also be selling yearbooks and PTO will also be selling yard signs, please see more information below. You can expect your class placement email around the end of August.
Lastly, we will be offering new family orientation virtual sessions on August 31st. We will offer a morning and afternoon session. More information to come so stay tuned!
As always it is an honor to serve as the principal of Sunflower Elementary.

Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ)-Kindergarten Parents Only
The state of Kansas is focusing on Kindergarten Readiness, and because the first five years of life are so important, we want to partner with you to ensure the best start for your child.
You've been invited to complete two Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ-3 and ASQ- SE). These are snapshot tools to help you record development and provide us with a more complete picture of your child.
You will be asked to answer questions about some things your child can and cannot do. The questionnaire includes questions about your child's communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, and personal social skills.
You can access the questionnaires at the links below.

From PTO
We’ve got Spirit, Yes we do!
We’ve got spirit, How ‘bout you?!
Sunflower PTO has created a yard sign for purchase as a way to show our Sunflower Spirit! We are beginning a new school year unlike any before. These signs are a great way to get your scholar excited and show that no matter what, we are “Sunflower Strong”.
You may purchase a sign at the link below. The signs are $15.00 and will be distributed at school supply pickup.
Gearing Up For the School Year!
If your family is in need of school supplies this year, please contact the office. The Lawrence Schools Foundation and the United Way have teamed up again this year and will donate school supplies for our scholars who need assistance obtaining supplies. The supplies will be delivered directly to Sunflower in September.
