During the day...
Get creative. Some of the following activities, using the right side of your bring, can help you relax... drawing, painting, singing, and dancing. Try to spend some time during the day to focus on creative activities. Maybe you have a special hobby. Build time into your daily schedule to engage in these activities since they are an important way to de-stress and relax.
Think about playing your favorite music and doing karaoke, or making family music videos. Consider helping to clean the house while listening to music. Or practice makeup, giving yourself a beauty mask, or having some fun with a new hair-do. Find some time to bake something new or pull out your favorite recipe you haven't made in a while. Write poetry or short stories if you like. Many of these activities bring one a sense of calm. And if you really want to relax, try listening to this meditative ocean walk.
At dinner....“Peaks and Valleys”
Here's a great conversation starter to use with your family. It helps you to reflect on your day and talk about the issues that affect you. The "peaks" of your day are the best part, while the "valleys" are your worst. Go around the table and discuss the highs and lows, and practice active listening skills while others speak.
As a variation or addition:
Go around and talk about the three L’s of the day at dinner:
-Today, what made you Laugh?
-Today, what did you Learn?
-Today, who or what did you Love?
All of these activities can help you to find calmness, be productive, and talk about your feelings and things important to you!
Getting into reading!
As we enter this second week, I hope that you have started to find a rhythm in your daily life. One thing that you can always turn to is READING! Reading can help you escape to magical and far away places when the world outside is stressful. To help with that, here is a Reading Toolkit to help you start reading when maybe you don't want to. It might help you to relax when you feel a little stressed.
What is in this so called Tool Kit? A fireplace, a timer, and some great music....check out Mrs. Alberico's slide show and click on the links! Click on the slideshow below to begin....

REMINDERS
- During the current school closure due to the COVID-19 cricis, our teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, administrative assistants, educational support professionals, tutors, and all MPSD staff will continue to be available for any questions that our students or families. Superintendent Granatino has asked us to stay connected and engaged with our students and families so you will continue to hear from us. If you have any ideas, let us know! We have a few ideas...so stay tuned!
- A few parents and students have contacted us about being allowed in the building to retrieve books, binders, etc. but we are keeping the building closed up so we don't risk any contamination. If this changes, we will be sure to let you know!
- We hope our students and families are following the CDC guidelines for social distancing but that doesn't mean you can't get outside and enjoy our beautiful community! Feel free to share photos (with parent permission) with us...maybe they will show up in some of our communications!
