Friday Update 9/21/2018

News from the Office and PTA/Noticias dela Oficina y PTA
While it was warm outside this week, our children were very focused on their work and activities at school. While visiting classrooms this week, I saw owl pellet dissections, students working on their FlipGrids, and Native American Biography research. Your children are truly engaged in their learning!
We have heard from many of our parents, sharing stories of how their children talk about using a growth mindset about different areas in their lives when at home. We are so excited that they have really begun to own working on having a growth mindset. They may not know something, YET! October is the month of learning about how the brain works! The October Windsor Happenings Blog will have information for you to know about the brain so you can reinforce the concept at home! Thanks to all of you that completed our Growth Mindset Parent Survey!
A reminder of some upcoming Important Dates:
Tuesday is Picture Day- more info below in the PTA Update.
Friday, October 5th there is NO Student Attendance as is it Data Day.
Monday, October 8th is Columbus Day and there is No School.
Arrival: Our arrival is going well in the morning! Parents are being patient and moving through our line quickly. One more reminder to please stay in your car and have your child exit the vehicle independently! Did you know it is against the law to have your child exit on the street side of your vehicle? Please remember to be patient when it rains as there is always more traffic and more cars.
Dismissal: Dismissal in the front driveway is also going well. We appreciate your patience as many of our students need help getting into cabs. One of the things noticed on Windsor Drive is the Double Parking to pick up children. Did you know that double parking, even to have a child jump into your car is illegal? Double parking is simply not safe as our cars exit from spots and may not see children. If there is no spot to pull into right after the bell rings, please take a few extra minutes and go around the block to go back into the line. Dismissal pick up truly takes 5 minutes. Please be patient. Do Not Double Park and go around the block if there is no place in line. As the weather becomes more inclement, again, there will be an increase of cars. Please be patient.
Additionally, there are some older students picking up younger children and they cross in the middle of the street. PLEASE remind older students that they must walk down to the crossing guard, no matter how old they are. We are trying to prevent a tragedy from happening.
PARCC test results will be going home today with students in grades 4 and 5.
Thanks for remembering to call the office if your child will be absent, arriving late or being picked up early. The absence hotline is open 24/7 847.506.6999x7700.

Dela Oficina:
