Saint Therese of Child Jesus
By Mary Alex Lieblong
Saint Therese was born January 2nd in 1873. She was the daughter of Blessed Louis Martin and Blessed Marie-Azelie Guerin Martin. At age four her mother died and her sixteen year old sister Pauline became her and her seven other syblings "second" mother. Five years later Pauline went to as Carmelite convent. A few months later Therese became ill with a fever so bad that people thought she was dying. But her sisters always kept praying by a statue of Mary. As soon as she could Therese started praying too. She saw Mary smile at her and suddenly she was cured. She tried to keep the grace of the cure secret but people found out and crouded her with questions about what Mary was wearing, what she looked like. When she refused to answer they said that she had made the whole thing up.
Therese at age 15
Therese became a saint by doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. She was canonized in 1925
She is the patrion saint of foreign missions, France, florists, gardeners, and aviators.
How she felt
When she was eleven she never relized that she began a habit of mental prayer and she would always find a place in her room to pray, think about god, and how to help others. Every time some one said something that ment they did not appreciate her or like her she whould burst into tears before she would even make the smallest comment. And then she would cry because she just cried!
Where her place was in the world
Therese was born, raised, and died in Lisieux, France.
Her small (yet intresting) life
Like I said Saint Therese became a saint by doing ordinary thing extrordinarley well and was canonized in 1925.
Therese wondered how she would receive her holiness in the life she had. She said she didn't just want to be good she wanted to be a saint. The more extraordinary things she did the more she belived in herself.
In 1896 she was sick kept working until she became so sick that a year later every one knew it. She died September 30, 1897 at the age of 24 years old.
