ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Brrr!!! Winter has surely arrived this week. Happily, we have been able to avoid a snow day so far. More importantly, we were able to break out the sleds for the sledding hill earlier than anticipated! Given the snow and the dropping temperatures, we wanted to put out a few reminders so that families can help support their students.
● Please make sure that students have appropriate winter gear to ensure that they are able to enjoy the snow and fresh air. For students in Grades K-4, this means boots, coats, hats, gloves and snow pants. For students in Grades 5-8, we recognize that the full gear is often not preferred, but we encourage students to come with coats, hats, gloves and boots or a change of shoes/socks. It can be a long afternoon if clothing and shoes are cold and wet.
● Recess is offered to all, but the sledding hill is a special privilege. If students can not follow the rules of the sledding hill, they will be asked to take a break from sledding for a specific period of time. This is true for all equipment and play structures at school. Please click on this link if you would like to review the specific sledding rules with your student: Copy of CCS Winter Recess/Sledding Hill Expectations 2017-2018.
Thank you for sharing this information in conversation with your student so that we are all working to support them in safely having fun during their school day!
Warm Wishes,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

NO MICROWAVE POPCORN!
Please do not send microwave popcorn in with your child that needs to be popped at school. This is one of the easiest foods to overcook in a microwave, which inadvertently triggers fire alarms. Thank you!
TECHNOLOGY - ACCEPTABLE USE AND DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AT CCS
This week, CCS rebooted our student Chromebooks. This required our students to review our Acceptable Use expectations and agree to them before they logged back into their accounts. The background screens for all student Chromebooks have been set to a standard picture and students are no longer able to download their own photos as backgrounds or screensavers. These system updates are good practices for all of us to follow, for many reasons:
● Students sometimes set their backgrounds to photos that are copyright protected.
● Some photos may be inappropriate for our school setting or distracting.
● Teachers sometimes spend a great deal of time keeping students on task, rather than opening other tabs and online sources to search for interest-based backgrounds.
If you would like to review our school-wide technology expectations, please click on this link: Technology Expectations - CCS Handbook 2017-2018
Over the next several weeks, teachers and staff will be revisiting and implementing instruction regarding digital citizenship with students in all grades. Some of this work will be responsive to specific concerns and some of it will be the regular, proactive work that we do to support all students with using technology appropriately and purposefully. Our 7th and 8th graders have been invited to attend a presentation regarding digital citizenship and online/social media safety on January 10th at Williston Central School.
There will be a parent presentation offered during the evening of January 9th. We will add additional information in our next few newsletters.
