Closing Out the 2019-20 School Year
Dear HES Families,
As we are approaching the end of this school year, please know how very sad everyone is that we did not get to see our Heroes return to school. We miss everyone so much and would have loved to finish our school year as normal. However, we understand the decisions made to ensure everyone's health and well-being.
During the remaining few weeks, please be in contact with your child's teacher, our Social Worker, Maya Ramos (firstname.lastname@example.org), or our front office (910-324-3139), if you need anything during this time.
Below you will find a schedule for picking up student belongings, returning library books and laptops with chargers. All student belongings, to include Ident-A-Kid cards, class pictures, yearbooks, and any medications will be grouped together inside a bag with your child's name written on the bag. If the times designated for your child's grade level does not work, please communicate with your child's teacher to make individual arrangements. We had to stagger grade levels and times to ensure traffic was not an issue. Picking up student belongings and dropping off items will be a drive by to ensure everyone's safety. When you come to the assigned parking lot, you will pull up and tell staff members outside the classroom teacher and your child's name. A staff member will then bring your items to you while you remain in your car.
As always, we appreciate everyone's patience, flexibility and understanding during this challenging time.
Heroes, keep dreaming big and achieving excellence in learning, leading and living! We hope everyone continues to remain safe!
Grades, Report Cards, Supplemental Instruction
Grades & Final Report Cards
The State Board of Education has deemed the following regarding grading for the remainder of this school year: Elementary and middle school students will not receive traditional grades for this year. Instead of final grades in elementary schools, teachers will provide year-end feedback for students regarding learning from the full academic school year.
Report Cards: Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, June 9th. Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if you want the report card digitally or if you prefer to have a paper copy mailed to you.
OCS will be moving from providing core instruction to supplemental learning beginning 6/1/2020.
OCS will continue to provide remote learning opportunities through May 29th. Supplemental instruction will be from June 1st-June 9th. Supplemental instruction includes extension, enrichment, review, and/or remediation activities that allow students to engage without the assistance of their teacher or laptops.
All supplemental learning activities will not be collected, graded, or require a 1:1 device. These lessons serve to reinforce the standards that have been taught this year, and continue to prepare students for the next grade level. The activities will be listed on the school web page starting May 27th under each teacher’s name. https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/richlandsps
Should you have any questions, you can always contact your child's teacher during this time.
Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8, 2020)
Families, next week from May 4-6th, we will be celebrating “Teacher Appreciation Week” virtually! Although our teachers are far apart from their students, they are still teaching with all of their hearts!
Here are a few ideas to help families celebrate even though students are not physically in school. Please help us show appreciation for everyone next week as we honor our educators who are working so hard to keep our Heroes learning online! We realize that some of you may also now be in the role of a “teacher”, so we celebrate you as well next week!
If you would like to mail anything to your child’s teacher, you may use the school address at 7444 Richlands Hwy., Richlands, NC 28574. Thank you for all that you are doing to assist with remote learning and for working as a team with our teachers and teacher assistants! We miss all of our HEROES dearly and wish we could celebrate in person!! Continue to stay safe and be well!
“Happy Administrative Professional Day! HES appreciates our wonderful office staff for all that they do!”
Since Governor Cooper's Stay-At-Home Order is still in effect until May 8, 2020, our office hours are not operating on a normal schedule. All Onslow County School are now closed to the public until further notice.
Families are encouraged to contact their child's teacher if there are any questions or concerns, as this will be the fastest way to receive communication since our office staff may not be available.
Thank you for your understanding through this unparalleled time. Please be safe!
