Back to School 2022
Highcrest Middle School
A Note from our Administrative Team
Our amazing custodial team is putting the last few touches on their summer cleaning, and our teachers have started setting up their classrooms. We have new carpet and blinds in many rooms, new tile in many of our hallways, a new beautiful shade structure out back, along with a refurbished reading deck. We are looking forward to a little more normalcy as we settle into a more "typical" school year this year than we have had in years past, and are looking forward to eating again in the cafeteria, hosting assemblies and field trips, and even having parent volunteers join us for lunch and other special events!
You can expect weekly updates on Fridays from the administrative team and HMS PTO from now throughout the school year. Please read them carefully to learn about upcoming events and special information to help your planning!
As you prepare to return to school, please make note of the important dates and information below, and be sure to review our D39 Parent Handbook for additional details about what you can expect this school year.
See you soon,
Kelly, Linda, and Susie
CLASS PLACEMENT/SCHEDULES WILL BE AVAILABLE ON 8/17.
Please refrain from reaching out to the office regarding schedule receipt or schedule errors until August 18, as it takes a while to go through the email system. The best way to reach out regarding schedules is via email to your child's Grade Level Administrator.
5th Grade Reminders
AUGUST 19: 5th Grade Orientation from 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM
ORIENTATION INFORMATION:
Please plan to meet on the playground behind the school by 8:45 AM. Make sure you know your child's homeroom teacher's name. Teachers will meet their classes by cones marked with their names, and will bring students into the building for a brief time together learning the location of their classroom, a little about one another, and some information about lockers.
Parents are invited to stay on the playground for a PTO-sponsored coffee to learn more about getting involved at HMS.
6th Grade Reminders
NEW TRIER MATH QUALIFYING: Later on this fall, all sixth graders will be invited to take the New Trier Math Qualifying Test. This year we will be holding the test (it is optional for 6th graders only) at Highcrest on NOVEMBER 17. This is a non-school day during parent-teacher conferences. More details will come later this fall, but we wanted to highlight the date for your planning purposes.
LUNCH FOR 2022-2023
All students may purchase a lunch daily, and the lunch menu will be available online monthly on our HMS website. To start the year students will be learning lunch processes, how to go through the lunch line, and how to purchase items.
Lunches will be limited to one option to start the year, and as we continue through the year, we are hopeful we will be able to add our a la carte line and additional options for lunch.
Students are always welcome to bring a lunch from home.
To add money to your child's lunch account and for more information about lunch in District 39, please see the instructions HERE. Cost for lunch is $3.75.
