2018 New York State Teacher of the Year to Visit Hillcrest Friday, December 7
MATH HAPPENINGS
Following up on the faculty meetings and Superintendents Conference Day trainings focusing on math, Dr. Ardito has been visiting classrooms to see our young mathematicians in action. He continues his visits this week and next. This week (12/4) he will visit those teachers previously scheduled for visits on the snow day:
8:45 Harrison
9:30 Esposito
10:15 Valenzuela
11:00 Owens
11:45 Flores
1:15 Lepore
The teachers who have yet to be visited will likely be scheduled for December 11.
Math Fact Fluency Homework
Last week a team of teachers met with Randy and Crystal (and Dr. Ardito, briefly) to discuss the Math Fact Fluency Homework. We began to review a system for:
- diagnosing students' current levels of fact fluency in order to place them within a phase of learning
- providing students with materials for ongoing practice
- monitoring and re-assessing student growth over time
We have a resource we are looking into that appears to be able to meet most of our needs, and we will be following up and crafting a plan together for sharing it with the staff at large, and then students and families. Stay tuned for more information soon!
LITERACY HAPPENINGS
Grade 4 F&P Data
In future, we will share comparisons to their End-of-Year Scores from June 2018, and we will analyze the number of students who regressed a category (for example, from being "on level" to being "below level") and students who advanced a category (perhaps from "on level" to "above level").
