There will be a science benchmark test in March before Spring Break. It will cover a lot of standards. Please review the study guide with your 5th grade student so they are prepared for the test. Students are encouraged to complete at least two Gimkit sessions at home. The Gimkit session has questions from all of the standards that will be tested. Parents, siblings, teachers, and friends can also join in. Practice 5th grade science on Gimkit: http://bit.ly/sciencebmpass. STEM
The Curtis Rising Stars Science Challenge is an entry level STEM competition for students in grades Kindergarten – 5th. The purpose of this program is to prepare and inspire younger elementary students for science competitions later on in their academic careers. The Science Center challenges young elementary student teams of 2 – 5 students (grades K-5) to practice skills in their classroom and apply them via a competition, with the support of their teachers and caregivers, at the Orlando Science Center.
The challenges were presented in a short written description. A facilitator in each room read the challenge aloud initially. Educators and an adult chaperone per group were able to reread the card to students, acting as a coach, but adults do not participate in solving the problem. Students worked independently to see what creative solutions they could dream up.
On February 1st, our K-2nd students competed at this event. We had several students compete, but one group won Most Innovative for grade bands 1st-2nd.
