PBIS Info
Wolf Paws - Cut them in half and use both sides. You can also use Sub Paws as we won't do that program any more (we will just use those coupons as part of the trimester drawings now).
Business donations - I have a letter ready to go out to Waseca businesses asking for donations for our trimester drawings. If you know of someone in Waseca that would want to donate, let me know and I'll give you a letter to give to them!
CARES Assembly
Our next assembly will be on October 25 at 2:30 PM!
October Reminders
Conferences
Try to get conference times home to parents by Friday, October 4. Fall conferences will be October 14-15 from 3-7 PM and October 16 from 7:30-3:00.
Walk to School Day
We will walk from Northeast Park on Wednesday, October 2. I'll share the google doc if you want to sign up to help! No PLCs on Wednesday this week because of walk to school day. If we have time on Monday we will meet in PLC groups during In-Service. Encourage your students to be dropped off at the park that morning between 7:20-7:50 to walk with us! Busses will drop off there too. Kids might be late getting to class that day so be ready!
Scholastic Book Fair
The book fair was double booked so we had to move ours to the last week of the month.
Family Night
We have a family night planned on Friday, November 1. It will be Halloween themed. If you have any fun ideas let me know! I'll start a small committee to help plan it soon. The book fair will also be going on that night too.
Individual Learning Plans
I will get these forms out to teachers next week. Have parents sign them at conferences.

Daily Five Tip of the Week

Issue #585My son and I drive the same route to school every day—Westwood to Lincolnway to Harrison. It takes about three minutes. When he gets in the car, he chooses the music and we chat about our evening plans. It has become routine, and I look forward to our time together each morning.
The other day, construction forced us to take a different route. Not a big deal, because we live in a small town that is easy to navigate. However, the construction interrupted our normal routine, and as I pulled away after dropping him off, I realized we hadn’t talked about our evening plans. As a result, I was left wondering if he wanted me to pick him up after football practice or planned to go to the rec center with friends.
Routines can be a wonderful thing. Knowing where we are going and what to expect while we are there allows us to be present and focus our energy on those around us or the task at hand. That is one major reason why Daily 5 is so successful in our classrooms. Daily 5 provides a structure that students and teachers come to know and trust. Behavior expectations are clear, and the structure is consistent; therefore students can focus their energy on the book they are reading, the strategy they are practicing, or the writing they are constructing.
And, when schedule interruptions such as recess, assemblies, and fire drills happen, students can participate fully, knowing they have the comfort and stability of a routine waiting for them when they return to class.
